Biography

Native from Caracas, Venezuela I spent my early childhood knowing I wanted to be rich and powerful. From then on, I tried with many ventures, the first one being; renting adult videos to my classmates in 5th grade. Then went on to, buying/selling; toys, air guns, phones, clohtes, and even djing for parties.

After finishing high school, kept trying ventures specially event planning (very popular and profitable in Vzla), currency exchange, tourist magazine and website, farmaceutical transport, and so on. Sadly, my family was always very supportive with me but they made me waste a lot of energy going to universities (I went to 3) and they didnt accept me for who I was,and what I wanted to do. With a political unstable country at the edge of a civil war, one day when I was 21 and after being heartbroken by a longtime girlfriend I suddenly decided to throw everything out of the window and leave the country for good to my other land, CANADA.

Once I moved to Vancouver (My grandma's city) I struggled learning the language and trying to understand the system. On my quest to become rich I UNWISELY decided to spent all my saving investing in the stock market, which was an awful decision because it was on 2008 at the beginning of the world recession that made the stock market plunge to levels not seen since the great depression. After loosing it all and enrolling my self unfruitfully in few English courses I got a job at a restaurant and fell in love with the industry so I decided to go back to college to pursue a food and beverage management diploma. But one day, after talking with a high school friend living in Toronto about how unhappy I was with Vancouver he invited me over, and I went there on a trip to never come back again. Sold everything I had in Vancouver and moved for good to Toronto to start college.

At my second year I came with an idea about a home-style gourmet burger restaurant which i pursued with no money and spend 2 more years trying to get it on (finding investors, making business plans,etc), drooping out of college on my last semester. After all i fought, the idea never materialized and I started doing illegal after hours with coworkers I had met working at a place called Polson Pier, that venture didn't last long due to the serious hazards and consecuences involved with infringement the law.

Then it came the time when I seriously thought I could be a professional poker player and started playing poker online 16hrs a day until a friend called me to say "hey, I know someone downtown that has a store and might lease us a space to sell food". Well that was the beginning of my most "successful venture" called "Arepa Market".

I started with $2,000 borrowed from my mom a small stand in the store selling Arepas, at the first week I realized my business partner wanted to steal from me so the venture went on hold until a few weeks later I had the opportunity to come back to do it alone. I spent a whole year working 24/7 on my venture with a lot of ups and downs, and even brought a friend from Venezuela to join the venture and unsuccessfully tried to partner with at least 5 other local friends to raise money. During the course of the year I met my wife and got married after she got pregnant but we had a miscarriage on the 5th month.

On our best month, we grossed around $28,000 but due lack of money, absence of customers (UFT students went on vacation on June) 3 failed festivals, a trademark infringement lawsuit and almost loosing my early marriage for not putting time on it or money (all money made was to stayed in the business)

I had to close down on August first, leaving a bunch of people unhappy owing them money and my self wondering what new venture can I start with literary no money. but realizing for good how dangerous and unworthy it is to run a restaurant business.
