Need young, high-tech entrepreneurs for interviews for my dissertation!

Hello everyone! I am a PhD student in the Department of Communication at Purdue University and I am here to tell you about my dissertation project in the hopes that you will be willing to talk to me for 30-45 minutes about your experience as a young, full-time entrepreneur.

I am currently looking for entrepreneurs that were born in 1980 or later to participate in an interview about what it is like to become an entrepreneur and how they became an entrepreneur. I thought it would be interesting to conduct a study about the way individuals in our age group collectively discuss career decision-making and specifically the career of entrepreneurship. The interview would be over the phone or in person (I am also located in St. Louis) and it would be approximately 30-45 minutes long, depending on your availability.

The interviews will be audio recorded, but following transcription, all audio files will be destroyed and the files will be confidential. Immediately following the interview, the participant will be given an identification number and a pseudonym for confidentiality purposes and names will not be used in the final results. You must be 18 years old or older to participate in this interview. There is no risk to you to participate in this research beyond the risk which is found in everyday life.

My research and interview questions have been approved by the Institutional Review Board at Purdue. Please do not feel obligated to participate in this interview. Participation or non-participation in the research will have no effect on you and no one other than the research team and the transcriptionist will have access to the interview data.

I have requested and received approval from the co-founder of this site to post this message, and I hope that you will seriously consider sharing your experience with me. As a communication student, I am interested in how you talk about this career and why you chose it.

I have very flexible times available for these interviews and I would love to speak with you in the next week or two. Please email me at rdohrman at purdue dot edu and we will get a time set up for a phone interview.

I hope to hear from you soon!

    Hi Rebecca,

I sent a request out to my list when you announced this. I got a pretty substantial number of click throughs for the request so hopefully a few of my teens (who are 18+) reached out to you and participated.

    Thanks.

    Thank you teenbizcoach!

Thank you very much for helping me with recruitment. It sounds like you have an interesting group. I haven't heard from them yet but I am hopeful I'll have the chance to chat with a couple of them. In any case, I really appreciate you forwarding my note on!

I'd love any ideas you have on how else I might be able to reach the young entrepreneur population. It seems like you have some great experience and I'd love any advice you have.
    Rebecca
