Question Do Industrial Engineers usually get a percentage of the profits if they are not investing in the company?

Hello everyone, here's my situation. I am starting a company that has an engineer to build the product. He said that industry standard is that businesses give the engineers a percent of the profits above the pay that they define. He sees the potential and I can understand him. Nevertheless, I am not certain on how to arrange this situation as far as the percentage goes. What is the norm. % for somebody that is not an investor? Should I tell him to suck it or is it usual for products with new products?
