Who Needs a Business Plan?

I am just wanting to do a quick forum survey:

1. How many YE users could use a well-written Business Plan?

2. Would it be for an Existing Business, or a New Venture?

3.How long do you think it would have to be to be effective?

4.What would you be willing to pay for a

(a) 5 Page Plan
(b) 10 - 15 Page Plan
(c) 15 - 20 Page Plan
(d) 20 - 30 Page Plan
(e) 30+ Page Plan

I would really appreciate help in this. I am planning on going back into the B-Plan writing field, but am unsure of as to whether or not it will be worth it advertising the service throughout the YE forums.

I have seen more than one entrepreneur struggle with writing their own business plan. I am hoping to help as many as I can procure a well-written and professionally lain-out Plan for a price that they can afford.

As part of this campaign, my consulting firm will be hosting a competition targeted at YE entrepreneurs and experienced writers alike. Stay Tuned!! I have the feeling that it will get interesting!

Do you think small businesses should also write a business plan or is a business plan only suitable for larger businesses. If you were starting a small lawn service or small internet business I don't see how a business plan could help you out.

Any business should write a business plan even if it is only a small lawn service. It doesnt need to be 40 pages with full financial projections for 3 years, but basics will help. Think about these ideas, and how putting them in writing will make your business much more effective. In terms of a lawn business this is how I would approach it, because a friend of my had a good business going and let it go bust when he went to college although he could have easily stayed in business.
Structure-forming a structure for tax purposes and liability.
Start-Up Costs and how to procure financing
Marketing-how will you get clients and advertise your business
Client management and relations
Exit Strategy
He lacked an exit strategy and pissed off many of his customers. There is very little chance he could ever start another business in lawncare because of his unprofessionalism.
Gregdavidson if you are interested in starting a lawncare business PM me and I can instruct you on all of these aspects.

A business plan is a necessary element for any business and should be created at the very outset of the business.

A business plan helps you organize information about your company, consider and plan for issues with which you may have otherwise failed to deal, keep a vision, etc.
