Hey all - I'm seriously considering opening up a mid-sized hookah lounge in NJ. Would like to serve food and have live music. How much money do you guys think needs to go into the creation of a Hookah bar?

I am also a college student that wants to start up one in my town, as there are many surrounding towns and no hookah bar in the part of my state.

I have a perfect solution to your problem, I wanted to throw a hookah party in the city of Glendale but the FREAK!! city shut me down. I had already bought the hookahs and the flavors. If you like I can sell you my 15 hookahs that I have left for $30 or OBO if you have another price in mind. I just want to put this mess behind me and get rid of my hookahs. The hookahs are Asian Style and are 23 inches in length. So let me know if you are interested.

Just so those of you are aware of this be careful with starting this type of business as many states are adopting the No Smoking In-doors policy. Some legislators include Hookah in this and it could mean that you find yourself not being able to sell your main product in a few years, or having to close down the restaurant portion of your business which is a major revenue generator for most hookah bars.

Hey there. I am from Boise, Idaho. My friend opened a Hookah bar in the college area of town here about 5 months ago. Since its opening I have helped with marketing and inventory management. I have all of the links you need as well as solid advice on table/seating structures, and the most profitable ways to use your inventory of hookahs/shisha. found it through this thread and been going through the pages and posts and have found some pretty good information. I am currently working on a business plan as well as financial, and legal issues. I wont be opening one here in the states so i'm a bit worried as to how it will be received. Either way it seems to be a very profitable and exciting enterprise to venture into.

here's my question to the members. In my position i can either open it near the local University (normal shisha bar) or have it in the city as a high class cafe/lounge. what do you guys think?

I'd also like to start throwing around some real figures..regarding start up costs, advertising, etc. CHEERS and good luck to all those taking the leap
