I've been looking into the laws in my state (Queensland, Australia). Good God, can anyone spell "restrictive"? Now, they don't spell out any prohibition of hookah bars, but any areas designated as smoking cannot have any entertainment, food or drink unless they're outdoors. No TV or slot machines in the smoking area, no food or drink can be served or taken into the area, and on in that vein. Blah, I'm getting tired of government!

I'm really interested in starting a hookah bar as well. I went to one in rhode island and the ambience and the mood play a huge role in getting people to come back. There are currently none located in my city and i think it would be a hit.

Hookah bar business is very profitable as it is gaining popularity ALL over the world. You have to be very careful tho, just the other day I went to one of my usual hookah bars here in NYC and for some reason they asked me for ID, which I didnt have problem showing but what the guy told me was that the owner got arrested because there were underage 'smokers' inside. So you guys have to be careful and make sure you know all the laws and regulations. It would help if you have a good lawyer at hand. Its funny how smoking cigarettes is not allowed in Hookah Bars lmao =)

sup guys me n two friends hit on a idea that i havent seen in these forums yet concering hookah bars ............ the military im in the air force and stationed in a remote state but in texas where i spent 6 months for training almost every weekend my friends would go to hookah bars the military pays ever 1st n 15th so there is a steady money source and trusrt me the military is very bored on the weekends n love to spend money especialy air force security forces which im in. Opening a hookah bar outside a military base or in a military town would be a great idea especially with the war in the middle east n soldiers going over there n being exposed to hookah n comming home with no source............................think about it................. we are in the research phase right now but we are very serious n excited any help would be appreciated

There are usually certain permits you can get to go around that law. Out here in LA there is a smoking ban, yet the Hookah fad still marched on. There are hundreds of Hookah bars out here and the market is very saturated, however there are certain permits you can get for these establishments, and I believe some rules can be bent if its a ventilated place with an open front promoting outside seating. Of course these are multipurpose places which offer typical middle eastern drinks and desserts. Some are even complete outdoor based in strip malls, etc. The fad has been kind of dying out here and the major draw are highscool/1st year college students, but if you are in a cold climate I believe the fad will stay strong

Make sure to check with your local city government to make sure if it's legal there...but I believe it can do very well...especially for those who legally can't get into clubs or bars in a college town Good work

I kind of can disagree with that a little because I work at a hookah bar in Ohio, and the winter has helped alot except on the weekend, but also we are a bar as well...anyway I just wonder if I would be able to start a hookah business here...i hope so

My friend opened one a few years ago, it's went down after one year. I recommend you find a good location, and serve variety of food.
