RE: Name?
I have settled on "The Auto God" for my new website after much deliberation (and after having several of my ideas flop because others already had registered the domains.)
The site will be targeted at 25-45 year olds in urban/suburban areas and will have an edgier feel than the more vanilla sites such as KBB or Edmunds.
Does anyone think the name is offensive? My intention is to use Apollo (Greek God of Truth) in the logo.

I dont find it offensive, I dont see why people would, and if they do they need to get over themselves.

Eh, it will be offensive to some people. IE: Fundamentalist Christians that stand for the whole "no other gods before me" line in the Bible. I myself am Christian, but I don't see anything wrong with the name.
Personally, I would've chosen something a bit more subtle, and palatable to a wider audience. Even something like Deus Automus would be an interesting play on words.
Overall, it is your idea, your business, and your concept. No one can tell you that your idea will succeed or fail- you determine that by your own efforts.

I believe that those who find it offensive will likely not be our target audience. We are shooting to be an edgier site that targets 25-45 year olds in urban/suburban areas.
In an attempt to thwart the angry religious types, the site's logo will incorporate a Greek god so as to clearly differentiate.

No matter what name you pick, there will always be someone that will not like it or somehow find it offensive. Since you aim for that "Edgyness" it's a fine name.

One strategy that you should apply is the idea that some day you may do business globally. If you apply that strategy then you will need to leave the word ‘god’ out as it could even bar you from doing business in certain countries.

just make sure your logo doesnt say "...and on the 8th Day, the auto God created the automobile" ahahahha
Some people might get upset.
But back to the real point, I'm a strong christian and I do not find it offensive at all. Anyone who does needs to relax. I don't think you'll have a problem with it. Just remember a quote by Bill Cosby
"I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone!"
keep that in mind. No matter what you do, someone may get upset. Such is life. Good luck w/your new venture. Keep us updated as to progress.

I would reccomend using a test group to see how the idea plays. If you can round up 20-30 people (at least half need to be in your target audience) and give them a free meal or somthing for their time. You could run 3-5 ideas past them and see how each person responds. To me that seems to be the only reliable way to answer your question.
