Making your own Fragrance?

I have been thinking about the idea for some time now. I mean every celebrity out there has one and its a huge success not because it smells better than other but because carries its name.. now it makes me think, do they have large vendors like CK or Burberry produce it for them or how does it all work.

Im curious as to what it takes to manufacture your own fragrance and also some idea of costs and licenses?

thanx

It's very easy to have your own fragrance made. That's the easy part of the business.

A lot of celebrity scents are created by Coty, which I think is a Japanese company, and from what I have read, etc... I think a majority of them actually have imput when it comes to the scent.

I would think that it would be expensive to manufacture your own fragrance. #1) because they are expensive #2) I believe they use extracts form the plants, flowers, fruits, etc.. and extracts are expensive #3) packaging, you need to have a stand out package in order to draw peoples attention, when a celebrity name isn't attached to it.

I do know, at least in here in L.A., there are a few places where you can go create your own scents, like an open bar type of thing. It's not cheap, a friend of mine told me she created a scent, it took 2 hours to get what she wanted and it cost her just under $100 for a small bottle.

Good Luck

thanx for the info. I am looking forward to other people's inputs as well so post away. Im kinda thinking if there's like a third party resellers..sort of like Cafepress is for t-shirts something like that..because its easy to begin with, along with competitive prices. Design wise im not worried but finding and producing at good price. I mean it wouldnt make sense to spend $100 making a small bottle and then selling it for like $40 or so .. there's no actual profit.. unless I guess you order a large amount .. i have no idea.. its just an idea im having and im trying to learn more..

I think the only reason they sell it is because of their "star power" so unless you can access some of that I cant see you selling enough to make it profitable

You dont need to be a celebrity, although that would be great. You need to consider you're brand, market it in a way that everyone would want a peice of it. Why do those stars have to power to demand premium prices on their cologne while other producers barely make half of what they do? It's all about branding. You need to look into it further, track the success of others. 'You need a bigger picture.' Think of a niche, make people want your brand. Good luck.
