Competition

I have an Idea for a great little business and I am currently working on a business plan. Now I know that I should include information about the amount and type of competition that I am facing with this business, but one of the best parts about this business is the fact that the competition is very minimal. At most I maybe able to get out a paragraph about the competition I face. My question is should I allow this paragraph to stay and hope that I've explained it well enough to ensure investor's that there is no strong competition and hope that they ask any questions if they have them. Or should I leave it out and explain it to them along with detailing my business to them? Thanks for your time.

Just so I understand you are talking about how to write the ‘competition’ section of your business plan. You are also saying that there is little to no competition out there. Are you talking geographically or industry wide? There is almost always some sort of competition. You can alienate investors by having a poor analysis of your competition. This is a very important segment of your overall plan.

I would take a step back and truly ask yourself if there is no competition. I’m sure if you are being honest with yourself you will find something to compare too.

Nonetheless I would make sure this section is more then a paragraph. You need full analysis of this segment to have a workable business plan…

I may be wrong.. There may not be competition to your idea… if that is truly the case then send me your business plan.. maybe I’ll invest

what I mean is that geographically there is little to no competition, worldwide I am more than sure that there are similar things. But this is meant to be something local with a later chance of expansion.

On a serious note, I wouldn't omit it. You want to inform your investors as much as possible. If there's no or very little competition you should still site how your business or nature is different and how it can withstand new and existing competition.

You can do a contrast and comparison of your business of any business somewhat similar to yours.

Just a thought.
