Myspace seems to have suffered a sudden (but not unexpected death). I know several people who have a facebook page for their small businesses. And Twitter is supposed to be the next big thing.

    Kim,

I have done private consulting and coaching on utilizing social media for your business, both high level or for specific features, aspects, services you want to promote. It ranges from basic strategy to specific targeted out reach that will ensure your product/service get noticed and perhaps further virally promoted to the leads you are looking for.

Feel free to PM me to be in touch via email etc.

    Thanks,

    Guy

I would suggest you to try Friendster, Flickr, Apsense, BeBo, Live Journal, and Multiply business networking sites. Here you can create groups, communities, business profiles and many more.

A social network is a social structure made up of individuals (or organizations) called "nodes", which are tied (connected) by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as friendship, kinship, common interest, financial exchange, dislike, sexual relationships, or relationships of beliefs, knowledge or prestige.

    Thanks,

I recommend focusing your efforts more toward facebook or twitter, personally I prefer facebook for social media maketing because you can give a better overview of what your company is about. Also in my opinion it is more user friendly and easier for connecting with clients, though twitter has been adding more and more features for connecting

Facebook has taken hold as undisputable leader amongst social networking sites than MySpace.

Definitely use Twitter, but keep it a real person. If you follow people and they see that you're all about ads and no content, they won't follow you back. Promotion works best if you develop a relationship and get involved with the community. Using hashtags, following people, commenting, and retweeting. These are surefire ways to engage your audience.

For twitter, I take the personal approach. Find businesses that do similar things to what you do and follow their followers. Tweet at followers (or others) who have something interesting and relevant to say. Thank people when they mention you.
