Click 'Forums' at the top of the page in the green menu. Then click the relevant forum name (e.g., General business, etc.). The you will see the 'New Thread' button.

You might wish to begin with the Google's SEO Starter Guide. It covers the essential 'what to do' and 'what not to do' for search engine optimization.

1. Research for your Targeted Keywords
2. Optimize your site
3. Start link building activities like directory submissions, social bookmarkings, ad postings, social networkings, etc.

Get backlinks from everywhere. It's by far the most important factor.
Spend as much time on it.

I've got a great guide that will help solve all your SEO ranking miseries soon =)
Fully up to date. One thing about SEO optimizing is that google is constantly changing how they rank sites.. so the rules are always shifting bit by bit. But there are certain ways to remain resistant to it!

SEO is very complicated, there are many ways to improve your rankings on google and other search engines. I suggest you read a book or search the internet on different ways to do this.

At the end of the day, SEO is out of your hands.
With the frequent changes and new tricks to learn, it almost makes it not worth the time (for me anyway).
If you have the money, invest it in a professional (or a company) that keeps up to date on this stuff and focus your efforts on other promotional methods.

add keyword research to that - sometimes you can appear first for a certain phrase typed into google

Pay someone!
Pay someone to optimize your site and get the full deluxe package. You're probably cheap, so you can also spend all your time getting links to your website and writing hundreds of pages worth of content. People new to online advertising don't realize how much time and money (even if you do it on your own) it really takes to get your site to the top. Links from larger websites going into your site are going to help the most. Sign up for directories. Try dmoz.org and dir.yahoo.com.
