I personally love my Wal-Mart. I used to be an anti-WM zealot. I just couldn't stand their "practices" and such; however, that was when I was younger and naive about life in general. I began patronizing Sam's Club because it was just an easy way to get stuff at a reasonable price. Then, a Wal-Mart was being built about a stones throw away from my house (well, literally, it was about five stones throws away... and I can throw pretty far). It is so close that I thought it was really going to wreck my ease of getting in and out of my neighborhood with increased customer traffic, but more importantly freight traffic.

When it opened, I reluctantly entered the store, and I have not stepped a foot in the nearby Meijer since (about ten stones throws from the Wal-Mart).

I don't think the problem you face is the Wal-Mart; I think the problem is two-fold: 1) there doesn't seem to be any competition in your area, and 2) the quality of people in proximity to work there. Granted, Wal-Mart is not going to be a place where you will find people that aspire to climb the ranks, but if there really is little else besides the Wal-Mart, it is likely due to the work ethic of the pool of people it has to hire from.

In general, you have to expect some lower standards for customer service when you deal with the discount places, and even more so when there are other extenuating circumstances.

If I were you, I would contact the manager and see if you could chat about things for a little while. I had to do this with the local McDonald's store mgr (and it is about time I do this again); it was quite literally the worst McD's experience I have ever had... and it was repeated. I had a certain part of me that wanted to apply for a mgmt position there just to straighten it out... and I expressed these feelings to the mgr. He gave me $50 in coupons and asked me to provide further feedback.

I'm currently reading this book called "Walmart: The Bully of Bentonville". I haven't gotten far, but it'll answer all your questions.

I agree by far. Wally World sucks as far as customer service goes. I think that's the place where all of the rejects get their jobs (no offense).

phone in stock

I asked her if she had a phone in stock and she simply lied and told me no. How do I know she lied? I called from the store parking lot later asking if they had it in stock. Sure enough, they had a whole box in the back.

I too think Walmart is great. Great selection, low prices, unparalleled exchange policy. If you don't like it, take your business elsewhere.

i rarely shop at Walmart. i don't buy groceries at Walmart either, only a few household items. I have this notion that Walmart products have less quality, needless to say customer service.

I don't shop at Wal-Mart anymore. Actually, I despise going to the store. There aren't enough cashiers, customer service is non-existent, and the "associates" don't care because it is a minimum wage job.

Sam Walton would roll over in his grave if he could see what his company has become. Their slogan used to be "Made in America." Now, all their products are imported for Taiwan, China, and India. They're very, very low quality. A lot of stores are like that now.

I'm a proud Target shopper. For groceries and household items, anyway. Apparel comes from a variety of sources. They do import a lot of their products but it tends to be better quality products. The stores are cleaner and organized in a better fashion. The personnel are friendlier and I don't wait in lines for longer than 5mins (at the very most). Plus, who can argue with having a latte while shopping? =]

That's just my opinion on Walmart, don't bash me for it.

Funny you should mention but I just finished reading a book titled "The Walmart Effect".

Its about the relationship between Walmart, its vendors, and its effects on society and the world.

It is true that Walmart delivers low prices because of their buying power, but when you go to another place that has the EXACT item but costs more, youre paying for the service and attention that the employees give you. If you want lower prices, you have to sacrifice the receiving of services. But in any case, that employee was lazy and im sure that if you filed a complaint and the managers find that the item was in stock and they lost a sale, theyd be pissed and reprimand the employee appropriately.

Red face

Hi poor girl, i think the wal-mart should give a training before take in the employees, because good stuff image and wholeheartedly service are very important. Wal-mart has set up his great reputation in the world. But i think good service is more important than business. it is the basic requirment to all the employees who work in the service department.
Try another super market. You will feel more comfortable.

It is sad how Wal-mart has put such a strain on small business, though I don't see it as any fault but our own. The unfortunate effect is a loss of culture and community. I don't think people find it flattering to be a member of the Wal-mart culture.

It sucks how employees there are paid so little, but part of me wonders what the economic effect of higher wages to so many people would be. Inflation or economic stimulation? I guess I also don't know what the profit margin of a place like Wal-mart is either.

There are 2 walmarts where I live and both have rude employees. Not to mention they only have 2-3 people working the cash register and the store has long lines. It is horrible the kind of service they provide. But, becuase their the only grocery store around that has decent prices and good products, I continue to shop there. One time I spoke to the manager about an employee, but he was just as rude. He defended the employee. All I wanted was to buy a game for my 360, but that didnt happen. Had to go to the other walmart to buy it.

To make this short, walmart sucks >.>

over here wal-mart isn't that bad. When I was younger I was on that kick of "Wal-Mart is horrible for America." Then I grew up and can't really afford to get groceries anywhere else, haha. Not to mention there is NEVER a hassle with returns, even if there is no receipt. Not everything besides groceries should be bought online, it would be a bitch to return a TV that didn't work, haha.
