    Glass Recycling

Ok so I've been interested in glass container recycling for a while now and I'm getting a bit frustrated with my findings. Some interesting facts:

-65% of glass in land fills is container glass (beer, wine bottles, etc.)
    -glass is 100% recyclable

as most of you will know, glass bottles are thrown away regularly by everyone, myself included. Which leads to the the basis of my post:

Glass is a reuseable, recycable asset going to waste. Most glass recycling programs are teriminated or end up reverting recovered glass to landfills because of the inability to efficiently collect and sort the glass, as well as, the lack of markets for the recovered glass.

With this being said, after much research and brainstorming I believe there are several ways to eliminate the problems associated with the collection and sorting of the glass bottles.

In your city are there any recycling programs? Incentives for glass recycling, or businesses that manufacture products made largely from post consumer glass?

    Unhappy I can fit in.

This is a great post and makes me think of where I can fit in. I do a little bit of everything mentioned here and I guess I have to find my competitive advantage.

Our county's soild waste district heavily subsidizes glass recycling and it is the least valuable recycled product behind aluminum, cardboard and plastic. You can contact the Allen County Solid Waste District in Indiana at 260-449-7878 and ask them where their glass is sent to determine what markets they are utilizing.
