I'd say the problem today would be not that my/our generation is lazy. (graduated high school 2007) The problem is that we have to many years of our lives structured for us. We get out of 12 years of a structured environment and jump right into another 4-6 years of structure called college. At no real point are we forced to think of what we need to do, its all written out for us before we have the chance to even worry about it. So we don't get above water and see what really is going on in the world until were about 25 years old.

Andrew, great start! I believe the world could be a better place, if we were all held responsible in receiving mandatory lessons in attracting, multiplying, and gifting Wealth. I refer to Wealth as a token of finance as much as I do a of symbol of health, thought, and time and success abundance.

The sheep are directed by the sheperds , thus allowing the sheep not to think for themselfs.
The sheep are told to do this and they all do it without even thinking.
They continue living life with someone else's brain.
Once in a while there is a sheep who hops out of the group. One who thinks for himself.
Some of those sheep find a better place to live, some don't.
In my opinion, that's how we are raised up. Like sheep.
Seriously though, most people i know have nothing planned for the future.
They're all like, yeah i'm going to be this or that and when i graduate i'll spend my entire life working for $2000 a month. Vcnetwork said it, it's already written out for us.
You can barely call that a life. I want to be someone , not just the average 9 to 5 worker. I'm sure the rest of YE wants to be someone too.

Hmmm?....
Something free that could help change the world? Sounds like an interesting challenge.
My father used to say this to me all the time "If someone wanted help from the state back in the old days, they would hand you a broom and point you to a sidewalk."
Think about your own qualities and what skills you have to offer? What would you be willing to donate and for what cause? What would you be willing to trade for? Would you be willing to trade your time for future returns instead of up front payment?
On another tangent... Web development has always been intersting to me, I see alot of people looking to build sites for people but want a one time up front fee. Why wouldn't you become a partner and ask for say 12% of the web site revenue for the life of the site? Is there a law against that? A site generating a thousand dollars a month would return you $120 a month. From an investment standpoint 12% is pretty good, most people don't see that over the life of their portfolios. You would want to pick ones that interest you to become a partner, but the return would be much greater.
To get back on subject, I would be willing to help brainstorm some more, I hope to see this thread stay alive.

Education isn't always the answer: look at the Caribbean countries and Latin America. Lots of those islands educated their populations only to find they didn't have the capital to support those industries or the markets. They ended up with a bunch of doctors working as hotel managers and taxi cab drivers.
Nothing is free, but if you want to help people, donating your skills (time) to a relevant cause and teaching people your skills is about as close as you'll get. Of course, technology (isn't free) has phenomenal beneficial effects for the world at relatively almost free costs. If you think about how much we all benefit from the internet and how much it costs relative to that benefit, its amazing.
Advances in technology, agriculture, health care, and today I would even say philosophy can benefit society in general more than any free sweater give away or free cheese sandwich.
I say philosophy because I think there's been a real corruption of logic occurring in the world lately. Part of the blame has to fall on the media.

Instead of free, I think you need to be looking at net benefit to society.
You're not going to ever get around the "free" thing. Cheap with a great benefit is achievable though.

I think it has a lot to do with our mindsets. I totally agree with the idea the Crysco has brought in. If only we can stop thinking about earning money right-here-right-now, and think of long term scenarios, then maybe a lot of us will be in a better financial shape a few years from now and would definitely change the way we work. And if we can teach other people to think the same, now that can produce some change.

Everything stems from our mindset... If we could help people be positive and stay positive no matter what, I think that would be a good start.
I cant number the amount of phone calls I've recieved from people after a bad day. Usually its fixed by asking what was one good thing that happend today? If its really bad I plan to meet with them even if its 3 am and I have to be up at 8:30am.
One of my favorite quotes not sure where it originated: "If your going through hell, keep going!" (You shouldn't stop and hang out, just get out as fast as you can).
How can we send out a positive maybe customized message to people? Maybe a quote for the day, or a funny video, goofy animal pictures, something to help people start their day.
Just brainstorming some more...
