Best way to market a twitter promotion

Hey guys,

I'm currently running a twitter promotion here and also at twitter.com/giftcardrescue for my internship with the company. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to boost productivity with the promo? Thanks

First things FIRST!! -

If you are using any Social Media sites to promote your or any product, you need to know and understand the "Rules" of Social Media.

There are a few things to understand: 1) Social Media is all about building relationships. Look at it as you would talking to your neighbor, family or close friend. You need to understand that it's all about relationship building.

2) Never try and sell your product on these sites. Get to be friends with them, invite them to your blog / site so they can see what you are all about. From there, they will show interest and want to be on your email list or even better, BUY NOW!! lol

3) Everyone wants something for free. NO matter how great the "value" of your product is, You can always give something away for free.

Well, there were just a few things for ya to think about. If you want the entire report, feel free to visit my site where you can my FREE book, "6 Most Common Mistakes Internet Marketers Make" .

I hope this helped you and good luck on Twitter!! See you at my site.

We're giving away a free visa gift card merely for followers. I feel like it will increase our influence on twitter and allowing us to reach into new markets of people

Where and how are you getting this Gift Card out to people? Do you have some sort of "List Building" program that captures personal information? Do the "Twitter" followers have to purchase anything before they get your gift card?

I agree with the comment above, social media really is about geniune relationships, so getting someone to just RT might not be valuable in the long run. With that said one of the campaigns that I came across that was successful was #moonfruit where they were offering a free macbook pro for RTing. I think having an incentive that speaks to your audience is crucial. Not sure if Visa Cards cut it, but a macbook pro would probably do the trick as evidenced by moonfruits success. Best of Luck!

The promotion is slowly gaining popularity through the various twitter channels that I search. If we were giving away a mac book I think it would be more significant but I'm waiting for more exposure to increase the giveaway.
