All thoughts appreciated-Non Profit thought/question

Let me preface by saying, I am in a brainstorming mode to create a business/ministry so potentially will have various post with various thoughts so please bare with me at this infancany stage of mine as I may bounce with different thoughts.

I overall have a a two fold purpose- help others & earn a living. I would appreciate feedback.

By reading other entrepreneur's I always hear do what you know and enjoy. I understand the below.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
idea 1-- I 've a great understanding of Mental Health problems with an advanced degree and real life experience of suffereing through many and the real life experiences of mental health challenges, so one thought was to begin a non profit to help understand the causes and consequesnces and how to arrest this problem.

The other thought which is a kissing cousin is to bring greater awareness to Drug & Alcohol Addiction and causes, what exactly occurs during illness, conseqences and how to arrest the problem. Almost the same as above but more of a twist on the drug issue and reabititatioing individuals who have gone through the problem and prevention.

I am not concerened by naysayers one bit ( I like to believe that people like us are in this together so your support is appreciated with ur thoughts) & would like some feedback on what i would have to do to make one of these two ideas work & if u know of a few web sites/books that could help me to learn where to begin.

Thanks
