this sounds stupid but i think its true
if you watch south park in one of the episode the city is trying to change the flag because the flag is a group of white stick figures hanging a black one, but the kids didn't want to change it because they thought it was funny and some did because they didn't like killing, but the point at the end (why the black chef was mad) was that it was racist, but then he realized the kids didn't even see the different races on the flag, which i believe the next generation wont have any racism at all except those family's that will always be racist that are rare pretty much.

A couple more ideas:
Loss of sense of community - It seems to me that people don't want to get so involved anymore so long as their volunteer cap is off; also, it seems many don't want to let people in - what happened?
Waste - Regardless of how much we can recycle, it seems we should be able to do a better job in reducing how much gets to a landfill (or worse). I note that many people don't like the inconvenience of recycling, composting, or reusing - much easier to hit one container.

High taxes.
If you want to talk about getting gouged at the pump...look no further that your own state and federal government.
Gas companies make a little over $.08 per gallon in profit. Look it up.
The government taxes approx. $.68 per gallon. Look it up.
Lower the corporate tax rate, stop telling companies how to hire and fire people, make health insurers compete across state borders, and you'll see jobs coming back to this country.
I have my own idea on how to reduce fuel/transportation costs for certain products by using less fuel ect. If you want to talk about that, I may be willing to discuss, but I'm not really willing to just give it away.

...and no offense, but this sounds like a nightmare! If you have a particular social problem you champion or that bothers you (especially if you are fairly well off), contact your local government. Its alot easier than you think. I wanted to talk to my local congressman last year, so I emailed him. That was Friday, and on Monday he emailed me back and I had a meeting set up with him. City government is really easy too. I went to Tulane and if you wanted to talk to city officials, all you had to do was go down there.
I don't want the government telling me how much gas I can use and what doctor to see.

we begin by looking in the mirror...I agree with you. some things are obvious and we refuse to acknowledge and accept.
Find alternative ways for travel and we gain control. We need to stop being lazy robots and remember what was before all of this.

all we had was ourselves. we weren't dependent on machines. although they have made live faster, easier and productive; we still have to remember that we made these things not they make us.
Buy a moped or a bike, if fuel is driving you crazy.
Eat foods that are as close to their original birth, if food concerns you.
Speak of good things, if war bothers you.

There are several problems that I see. One major problem I see around me is people just giving up. My family moved here from Bosnia during the war there, and we had basically nothing, so I don't take things for granted. But people now just seem to settle for any job that will get them the basics and live with it. I'm not greedy, or selfish, but I want a lot more because of my past. There's more that I could name, but I'll just stick to that one for now.
