Well yes I see what your saying. But what if men feel uncomfortable shopping for kitchenware at his store because its too girly. Targeting the right kind of buyer yes, but kitchenware is open to more than females, the market is there for both. Its still a niche market which could be targeted to both males a females looking into kitchenware. There is no need to narrow it down when you could have a nuetral environment that doesnt bother or repel either.

but of course, it really comes down to the owner, and what audience he wants to capture.

thank you

Thank you all for the great comments! My niche is the small kitchen appliances and i am targetting it to anyone that needs them, not just females or males. I chose a light blue color since it is generally known to be a color that is both calming and very peaceful. But maybe I really need to add some other colors in there to create a call to action? something like red "add to cart" buttons?

Merely responding to the comment that to target one sex rather than the other would be sexist. Absolutely nothing wrong with sexual discrimination in marketing.

I am pointing out the color because I thought you want to target woman, sorry for my dominant feeling naturally because I come from Asia where man are more dominant and left the house work to their wife. But seriously if you are talking in term of marketing do you really think it will be feasible to target everyone? Just an advise, you might want to revisit the 80-20 rules and to see if you really want to target everyone instead of a more targeted population. You can call me sexist or anything you want but if your pocket are not deep enough it might be wiser just to target a certain group which give the highest return for your time and advertising spent. So you might want to find out more about your target market / audience, now if there figure show that it is a balance fact that both man and woman love to cook and purchasing all those equipment then you can do as you please otherwise you might want to give it a thought.

Some of the color information that you might be interested in and you can go search for more information on "Color Psychology", you'll need it for online marketing purposes.

Red --excitement, strength, sex, passion, speed, danger.
Blue --(listed as the most popular color) trust, reliability, belonging, coolness.
Yellow --warmth, sunshine, cheer, happiness
Orange -- playfulness, warmth, vibrant
Green -- nature, fresh, cool, growth, abundance
Purple --royal, spirituality, dignity
Pink -- soft, sweet, nurture, security
White --pure, virginal, clean, youthful, mild.
Black --sophistication, elegant, seductive, mystery
Gold -- prestige, expensive
Silver -- prestige, cold, scientific

Generic will absolutely kill you these days. And jmeng2 is right. It's not illegal to "profile" when you're doing target positioning. And it's a method that has worked for decades. Even beer manufacturers break out groups and create entire campaigns to cater to particular markets.
