larryweir.com - Music Industry

My friends are saying I should update my website larryweir.com, however I think it looks fine. I am thinking all I need to do is add some social features to larryweir.com and that would be enough. So I thought I would seek some advice. Should I go for a complete redesign of larryweir.com or should I just add some web 2.0 features to it? I appreciate the advice and suggestions.

I know everyone says to keep away from splash pages but I think a flash into focusing in on the following content would be beneficial. Any thoughts? I'm not really concerned about the Search Engine just want client's see.

Welcome to larryweir.com. This is the official site of Composer, Record Promoter, Producer, Writer & Publisher Larry Weir. Larry is behind Heartland Entertainment which comprises National Record Promotion, New Music Weekly, Production & Management and Film & Television Music.

Thanks in advance! - Larry

Mr. Larry Weir,

A very simple and clean design, however very out-dated in my view. I would redesign the site from scratch. Often, incorporating features into an existing design does not look "to flow". It is similar sometimes to adding a section to a house that was built to only have 1 level.

"Web 2.0" features is a very generic term. Their are certain aspects of design that go into the "Web 2.0" realm, such as, social media marketing links, oversized font for headings, the whole iTunes like coverflow carousel, lightboxes, etc. I think with a nice redesign you could attract more people to your site, while still maintaining a simple clean design. Overall I would stay away from flash intro pages. Google and other search engines have made people expect FAST. To wait for a flash intro is outdated and very obnoxious nowadays. Once again this is just my opinion, as a professional web designer.

If you have anymore questions, please feel free to e-mail me or ask me. Thank you.

I agree with Christophercloud9 with the fact that it looks VERY outdated but aesthetically its good on the eyes. I disagree that you should have to start from scratch but thats my opinion. I am professional web applications developer, not to be confused with a web designer....i have crap for creativity. As a programmer, i like to reuse things and not start from scratch unless its absolutely horrible. I would consider shortening the biography about yourself into an abstract, and if someone wants to read details they can. Also the photo gallery definitely needs to be redone, i would consider using lightbox for viewing images so it does not open up a new window that is a big NO NO. If you are going to start from scratch i would consider building your site using a CMS like Drupal which could give you the features you want with the up to date UI. hope that helps.
