    internetcapsule.com

    Hi guys,
I'm new on this site, but I'm very interested in this community of young aspiring entrepeneurs! (did I spell that right?) I'm new to the scene and I've been working on an idea I came up with not long ago and have finally got "something" working (I guess)

    The site: internetcapsule.com

I'm sure the URL explains it all but I've got so many ideas I'd like to pour into this site, but honestly, I don't know how and where I'm taking it ... except for 1 thing: that I want to build an internet capsule.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.
I'm also thinking of sort of introducing opportunities for others to join in working alongside me in this project ... the financial side is something I'm still sort of coming up. I'll be posting this more in detail in the Biz section of these forums.

    Peace.

I think you need to build it out more. It is currently very empty. Take some of your favorite ideas and incorporate them into the site and post back here so there is more to judge. The "about" link does not work either.

The first problem, a very big one, is defining exactly what you want to offer.
Everything that is on the internet is already "time capsuled" in thousands of places that are (free and) much more permanent and secure than you might know.
You must be familiar with the Internet Archives, caches, etc.
Those are on reliable secure servers.
Would you be asking people to pay to just put something on a less reliable server?

It might be helpful for you to think about:
    1) What kind of information do you want to preserve?
    2) Why did you develop an interest in this very specific field?
    3) Is there a related field that does have commercial hope?

As for the mechanics of the site, here is a suggestion:
    1) Get an html editor, like NVU NVU
    2) Build a page with some fluffy stuff, like pictures and cool fonts
    3) Start your website as an affiliate of lots of larger companies
(That might give a small income while you decide what you want to focus on)
    4) Do research in the areas that interest you.

It is admirable that you are trying to start with your own project.
Most people just piggyback on others.
Unfortunately, "your own project" needs to be refined before it is practical.
    I would start from scratch.

    Thanks for the feedback.
I know it's been done before, but I was thinking of "postering" like a collage according to year, like a pin up board images, pictures, messages, videos (eventually) ... it's nothing new, just hopefully different.

I don't want ppl to pay, but just to keep running costs, I need to charge a small fee (hopefully 2.99 won't be much).

I want to give ppl a commercial incentive, which is why eventually I want to incorporate links to their website (which can generate ppl traffic) and/or maybe begin to include revenue sharing program (eg, 1000 clicks = $1 or something like that)

I'm a bit unsure about point 3. ((3) Start your website as an affiliate of lots of larger companies). What does this mean?

I will continue to do my research and endeavour to keep working at it. Everything you saw it about 1 weeks worth of work.

    okay
first, even $2.99 will lose most of your traffic.
If Yahoo charged $2.99 for email, they would lose 98% of their customers overnight.
Try tasteful advertising to cover expenses, if necessary.

I think your idea needs to be "part" of something else first. Alone it will fall.
If you build a more practical website, and use the time capsule idea as an aside, a sort of personal hobby, then you have more chance.

Lots of companies give commissions to small websites that promote or link their site.
You could find similar themed sites and become an affiliate for each one.
Your website would be like a storefront for various bigger companies.
One way or another, it is very important that you:
find several websites that are similar in some way to your website idea.

Lots of sites also seek reciprocal links.
They can generate a little high quality traffic.
People referred by a reciprocal link would be someone coming from a similar site.
It also might generate a small amount of revenue.

I'll repeat that the pages cannot be as they are.
The faqs page has 2 scroll boxes that are annoying to navigate.
It suggests the page was built on a screen with a very large resolution.

I'll also stress, very frankly, that your idea is not practical as it is.
The "product" you are selling is not something that can stand on it's own.
You must take a step back and analyze more accurately the potential of that idea.

The first step is to look at sites that are in some way similar to your ideal.
