Firstly, change your black design immediately if you want to be taken seriously.
Dark layouts
very rarely work, with the exception of white spaces in area's of focus (i.e.
AskMen.com - Free Men's Online Magazine). It's because light-coloured text is difficult to read on dark backgrounds, adding extra stress on the eyes. White space is essential for providing spatial relationships between visual items, and actually guides your reader's eye from one point to another.
The layout is cramped at the moment, so try loosen it up through the use of colour and gradients. The black against light greys and sharp corners gives a very harsh effect. Despite the colour the design is going well, I like all of the Web 2.0 elements although the logo and a few of the bulkier fonts need replacing.
Good use of JS interactivity thus far - be wary that adding Ajax & JS to optimise UI gives a professional touch but too much gives the impression that you're trying too hard to show that you can code. Tweaking the coding slightly gives a great effect, for instance try and add fades to your tabbed browsing or click-rolling to the check lists.
Execute an encryption of your code once you've finished. If you need any help or a in-depth review of your programming just give me a PM.
Good Luck.
