Design & Color suggestions on website...

Currently my site is a work in progress. I am having to find a new supplier at the moment and only have a few products listed, as well as having several pages to finish (about us, etc)

Basically I am just wanting opinions on how the site looks and such. I am wanting to change the color scheme to brighten it up but not sure what colors to use, and am open to suggetions. I am working off of a template and am looking for ways to make the site more colorful yet professional. I can easily change any of the colors or graphics (nav bar, background, etc) but I defiently want to leave the blackboard header, or atleast the theme of it in place.

As this is my first business endeavor, any help advice, or overall thoughts would be appreciated, thanks.

p.s. Eventually I want to create a seperate area called The Hangout that has fun DIY science projects, articles, and forums to discuss the products and other educational topics. Does anyone know how difficult it would be to implement a seperate forum, or atleast a link to a forum? Thanks

Hello,
I would brighten up the product list section with a white background. Also, on my screen, your products have shifted into your right hand side menu so makes it very difficult to read (i am using the latest version of firefox). Did you test your site with different browsers ?
I like your products for sale.

Yes I had been trying to fix that as I noticed it happened in firefox.. I ended up just removing a row and only having 2, seemed to fix it.

and thx for the suggestion, I hadn't yet messed with that as I was trying to figure out what colors to make the banner, border, nav bar, and background.

made a few updates, lightened up the product list page, created a tan background and a few other things, let me know what you think, thanks.

So much better with my browser. No overlapping anymore.

I know that you wanted to keep your board and its colour scheme but wonder if you should not try to change your light brown background to white and use this light brown colour for your left menu bar as to separate clearly your menu from your e-shopping product list, in the same spirit as this site for instance: educationaltoys.co.uk

If you have some time, please let me know what you think of my mine. I posted a threat 2 days ago (Online travel site on Brittany) but no one seems to be bothered to send me their suggestions....

Cheers.

A quick point. All your fonts are sans serif except your menu links.

First thing I noticed.
