Why does Godaddy add Business Registration to your order?

Hi, can someone help me understand why GoDaddy has added Business Registration to my order? I am wanting to create a small site to sell hand crafted jewelry. Does anyone know, at what point I need to have my business registered?

This is to register your domain as being owned by a business. It has nothing to do with legally registering your business.

That's weird. Did they add it automatically?

godaddy should be called fatdaddy. they're way to bloated. I suggest domainsite.com to anyone who wants a domain name and full management features.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, they did try to add it automatically. I will be removing it from my order.

godaddy is bloated. I am the anti-godaddy king and I would like to trash their crap service every chance I can. It's for novices who know little or nothing about domains or hosting, which is the majority of people I guess. Those people should get out and read more. There are a ton of great hosts out there, I've used many. Had good experiences and bad, but I'd have to say hostgator is doing nicely for me right now and I have two dedicated servers hosted through a friend that reside on a major carrier in a major datacenter that don't do half as well performance wise.

For anyone looking ... go to Web Hosting Talk - The largest, most influential web hosting community on the Internet

EDIT: Also... DON'T GET YOUR DOMAIN FROM YOUR HOST! IT'S A TRAP!

I use domainsite.com for all my domains, and I have for years. Before that I swore by network solutions before verisign bought up everything but disney. domainsite.com is $7/yr for a domain and comes with google apps installed on those domains.

I know I promote a lot of inet interactive sites her, but I feel like they know their stuff and their sites are filled with reliable people in the industry who know what they're talking about.

If anyone here actually makes it to a need for an enterprise environment, datapipe.com, rackspace and 1and1 are all pretty good. EV1 servers was OK but now I have no idea. Interland was good when they acquired dialtone, with whom I host two opennap servers that kicked arse. Haven't hosted there in years, but they were good then, I imagine they've improved since.

I've been using the same registrar for 5 or 6 years. They're much much smaller than godaddy, but they're stable too. GoDaddy would be a lot better if they removed a lot of the bloat. They want to be everything to everybody.

How many people here understand what round robin DNS is? Mail Exchange records? What a tertiary NS is? These are the things that are important to me in my registrar. They don't host websites. Because I have a web host for that.

One thing I will give to godaddy that no one else seems to want to do.. and this is HUGE for me. If you register a domain with them, you don't have to host the site there. That's the only thing keeping them a registrar and not turning them into more of a host. The ability to move domains to diff servers is important, especially if you have a site that you would like to grow one day. Paying your host like 200 bucks just to allow you to take your domain somewhere else is fraud as far as I'm concerned. Maybe extortion would be a better term. In any case, that's the one good thing you will hear me say about them.

RT: your logo kicks ass, btw. It's very very clean and professional looking. Did you actually design it yourself?
