    Multimedia

    Aspnix.com offers a lot of Multimedia features on their package plans.
    I wonder how effective they are.
    Do you use them personally?

    Its all a load of bull.
    Handled client side:
    * Real Media Audio & Video
    * Adobe Flash
    * Adobe Shockwave
    * Windows Media Video (WMV)
    * MIDI File Support

    I can't imagine a host who won't support these (first two are mostly client side anyway):
    * Streaming Video Support
    * Streaming Audio Support
    * Custom MIME Types

    Custom MIME Types
    Can anybody explain to me what is that?
    Are you sure that aspnix.com supports that?

    MIME Types is a header statement that tells the client's browser what type of data is being sent. This way you can send an image with the extension .doc if you wanted to, and the browser would render it properly.

    If your using apache edit your .htaccess file and add

    AddType TYPE EXTENSION
    You can get a list of types here: Multimedia MIME Reference

    Any host not offering MIME extension is archaic.

    All in all aspnix.com supports multimedia on their services and that means a web master may host video materials on their servers.
    I wonder if anybody uses that option from them?

    I'm sure someone utilizes that feature. Video is quite common online now after all. There are not very make tweaks to specialize a server for video hosting, generally a general purpose server will more then adequately serve files.

    As a rule of thumb consider 'green' just a buzz word used for marketing. All I could find on their site was the assertions that they use 'Redundant Green Power, Generators'. That term kinda implies something along the lines of using redundant solar arrays, or hydro power (promise they don't have redundant dams).

    They don't have any specifics listed... so its all speculation and I think that is what they want. The idea that a entire data center can be powered by 'green' energy is still outside of of our capabilities right now (cost effectively at least). They say that to give you a good tingly feeling.

    If your concerned about making your website green, assume your server is a power hog and takes 1kwh or power/hr and buy yourself some energy credits

    I have seen that aspnix.com has decreased their prices on dedicated servers and they offer some specials on their VPS deals, what is the goal of that?
    Just attracting more clients or anything else?

    As a rule of thumb they are trying to attract more clients and their cost of hardware has gone down.

    Every two or three years my hardware supplier will drop the price of the hardware I'm currently leasing because, well its the way the tech market works. Instead of going with a lower price I will periodically upgrade my servers to the next level of hardware for the same price. My bottom line remains the same and I provide better service.

    Thanks for all your replies, dudes.
    Think aspnix.com services can be used for hosting multimedia web sites.
    I will try to do it.
