Unhappy Might need a new host

Begers can not be choosers. My site has been down for about a week now. For the first day or two I just figured something was wrong and it would be fixed soon and I was not too worried. I met someone on here that was kind enough to offer me free hosting. The story was that I am a stay at home disabled dad and money is very tight so even free hosting helps a great deal.

Well things have been wonderful for a long time. There has been some down time here and there but then again I was told up front that this person was working on setting up their hosting services and the company was not even public yet.

This person started off by building some server computers and shipped them off to some company where they would be hooked up the their networks and then the sites would be hosted there.

Well from what I understand...he changed his mind and has changed over to a reseller account.

I don't care. I have just been very thankful for his kindness. My favorite part is the fact that he has also been very supportive as well. I was trying to setup some stuff on my site but it required something to be added to the servers as well. Just 2 simple little add ons. When I asked if these items were on the server he informed me they were not but he then installed them within a half hour.

However, like I said my site has been off line for a week now and I know someone else being hosted by him is down, so I know it is not just me. I have now sent 2 e-mails and also called and left a voice mail as well. I normally see him on AIM atleast every few days but have not seen him on there.

When the server went out I was in the middle of a huge site makeover that I think will make my traffic really take off. I am just happy this happened before my re-opening and also all the directory listings and stuff.

So what do I do now? Like I said...money is very tight. I have looked at a few places. I looked at doteasy.com but they charge $35 to move your domain name to them. Does not seem to be a way to setup an account with them when you already have a domain name and do not transfer it to them. So doteasy.com is out. Looked at godaddy.com too. I did not see anything particularly wrong there, but I just do not know where to go.

I loved the personal service I have / had with the host I have now. It was not like talking to some stranger when I needed help. We talked about life too and so it was more like talking to a friend when I needed help.

So this e-mail was partly just to vent and also to see some peoples input. I am sure there must be a good reason that all of this is going on. Who knows, maybe the server went off line and the guy is spending a month in jail for something that therefore is not around to reset it or whatever. lol I just do not want to just sit here waiting to find out what is going on.

/sigh So now what?

Update. I heard from my host today and I guess it was a chain reaction that knocked the server down for a week. I will not go into details but just wanted anyone who reads this to know that it sounds like everything should be good as new on Sunday.

Still though. Let this be a reminder that your sites could all get wiped out and you could be SOL 100% one day. I would start looking for Plan B.

I know someone else that is hosted on this same host and he did not even have a backup of his forums. Man that would have sucked.....over about 2 years worth of forums gone.

If your website is down for more then 12 hours you need a new webhost. As easy as that.

Hi there, many people have problems with their hosting companies. That's why a hosting company must have at least an 99.5% uptime. And yes, every one promises this. But browse the Internet and find reviews.

Feel free to use your right to investigate.

Together we can help you find a custom hosting solution that fits your needs as well as your budget.

Feel free to contact us at any time.
