Have you installed a capture page on your blog site. This is critical because if you want to increase your readership (and revenues) what you want is a steady stream of viewers to correspond with.

All of the suggestions you've listed work and work well. However, you need to get consistent and steady traffic to your blog. The capture page will allow you to retain email addresses of all of your viewers. You can then use this information to notify them of say new posts to your blog. Or let's say you start promoting affiliate products, you can then employ email marketing.
