    hostgator.com ????

O have been sort of looking for a new host and I came across a site called HOSTGATOR WEB HOSTING - cPanel, Reseller, and Dedicated Website Hosting and was wondering if anyone here knows anything about them. There stats are as follows.

    Disk Storage 350 GB
    6,000 GB a month bandwidth

    $4.95 a month

Hostgator oversubscribe their servers so there all slow, you get what you pay for. For example 350 gigs space for $5, or 10 gigs for $15. The 10 gig option will be a lot better. A new site isn't going to need 6 tb of bandwidth and a third a tb of space. Go with something smaller but more expensive. I could give you an affiliate link if you want but it would kind of undermine my post.

Thank you for the info. This site is not new. The server I am on right now has gone down and I have not heard anything from this person in over a week and the server has been down for over 2 weeks. I have decided I have waited long enough and it is time to move on. The server I was on was doing me a favor and giving me free hosting since I am a disabled stay at home dad and do not have much money to spend. So that is why I was looking for cheaper.

Hmmmm the $7.95 one is cheaper to setup then the baby one since there is no setup fee. I think that very ell may be the one I go with. Unless I hear more on here about servers.

A new part I am trying to setup on my site is going to be funny or odd animal pictures and videos, so I am hopping I will use a lot of bandwidth because that means lots of views. I am sure it will be quite a while before I get even close to the 600gb on that plan.

Hostgator has ToS that are designed to catch you out, just make sure you read up on them. Hostgator would be my very last resort. You have to balance content over load time if a user hasn't been on a site before, load time is an extremely important factor. If you look at a professional hosting company, you'll get something like a gig of space and 50 gigs of bandwidth for $15, you may think that's not good but the server and support will be a lot high in quality. There are various sites that can host videos for you free of charge, such as youtube. I would just use that rather than shelling out on un-needed space.

    [aff link here] xD

Post the link or PM me with it. I really need to find a good host. I saw some of the TOS on hostgator and was seeing stuff about not abusing the servers. Sounds like I could run into problems with all the images I plan on uploading. I think that hostgator could get pretty mad at me.

I use Hostmonster, and it seems to be very similar..... I hear what Nick is saying above about quality bandwidth..... I have 600GB storage and 6TB monthly transfer for $5.95/month, but if I ever have more than 70-100 users onsite at once, I would experience server problems.

    Thumbs up

I've used HostGator for the last 5 years and have only two instances where servers were down. They were only down for about an hour. They have an awesome staff and they are around for you 24 seven. I've been a reseller for 4 of these 5 years. Some of my sites have very high traffic with no problem I think they are perfectly suitable for the average business' website. I mean if you're going to be an Amazon or a YouTube then you might think about getting your own server.

    Lightbulb Hosting

This would be an awkward (if that is the right word) post, because we also deliver hosting solutions. But HostGator is so far the best hosting company. Their support is 24h a day and the response is very quick.

You could try them... Or you could join us

Hostgator has a pretty good rep as far as I've seen.
Overselling is an issue. But I'd get a reseller account. Dirt cheap, more control, and WAY faster.
And either way, hostmonster oversells MUCH worse than them.

I'm sure we can all agree that most hosting companies oversell. I've been using Hostgator for about 1-2 years now with zero problems. In fact, I am very satisfied with their service. Some of my websites are highly trafficked. I've had no problems with downtime. Hostgator reps are very knowledgeable in the technical aspects of the hosting. The Hostgator support forums are helpful as well. I've used at least 10 different hosting services, and this one is by far the best you can get for shared hosting.
