Help w/ purchasing a domain name

I am a new user to this site and I have a question regarding starting an internet business. I would like to purchase a domain name but there seem to be so many options. I currently know the domain name I want and it is NOT in use by anyone. There are a few sites that you can register your name with but the prices and other items vary. I have read through the posts on this site but there seems to be so many different views. What is the best route to registering a domain name? I currently want to just purchase the domain name and it will be a little while before I get a host or set the site up. Thank you very much for you help.

If you want to keep your hosting and domain name and all your internet products together with one company, choose a domain registrar that has the hosting package and customer service you will want to buy when you get to that point. Some places discount hosting if you have a domain registered through them. For example, with my shared hosting packages, I offer domain credit to customers who buy shared hosting. Just something to think about.

the best route is
1. consider your business related keyword
ex: if your business is consulting service
your keyword perhaps
service, online consulting, online business consulting.
you may register onlinebusinessconsulting.com
if dot com has been registered, you may choose .net or info.
2. choose host for your business need.
the first thing to consider is space you need. and bandwith...
if you are just starting, 2 gb disk space and 20 gb disk data transfer is enought for you.


and don't forget to ask anything to you host about your concern to run your business smoothly. because it is fact that you will need their support for running your business.
3. then when you are sure, you can sign up with them,,,,, build your site...
if you don't know HTML you can build with website builder...
so you can run with ease.

it is perfect if you are having trouble to build your site, you you can get help instantly.....

1&1 Internet Inc. - Web Hosting Services and Domain Name Registration Is who I use for all my sites. They offer alot of options from hosting, dedicated servers, email, DISC Space, e-commerce assistance, e-shop (which is cool by itself), I use IPswitch FTP to upload my files to the server. They also have templates you can use if you want to create a "kids" site or just an informational site. I hope it helps you.

price is not an issue, as I probably could give you a list of dozens of companies selling for $10 or less per year. if your business is very connected to one keyword or phrase, then go for a name that contains it. otherwise, forget iProvideCheapServicesAndOtherStuff dot com, and go for a short and catchy name.

If you know what domain name you want, then you should quickly go and register that name because it may not be there anymore tomorrow

If use bestdomainregistrar.org to find domain name registrars and current offers. I have tried Godaddy, Namecheap and Netfirms. Namecheap is my favorite so far because of their easier to use control panel. If you just want to have 1 domain name, Netfirms is the cheapest I found.

Theres many places you can register your domain name, some reputable domain registrars that I use are Namecheap.com and godaddy.com

I have used BlueHost.com and Godaddy.com in the past. I think Godaddy is the easiest to use and the price is right.

Agreed. I use namecheap because each domain comes with free whois protection.
