guess I am making the assumpion that Yahoo hosting will have lower downtime rates than other hosts, and that loading speed will be competitive with others. Are these safe assumptions?
After all the reviews I have read on other providers, I have concluded that there are always unsatisfied customers on every host. So my main question remains, do I need a VPS or dedicated server for my big site, or will a simple plan on Yahoo do the job as well.....?

Taking into account your needs, I'd like to draw your attention to serverpoint.com as it offers a wide range of hosting solutions on favorable terms. I suggest you to use VPS hosting on Linux plaform, because it is faster than the other hosting solutions and also has more useful feature in the plans.

Hi - it really depends on what you consider high traffic. I do around 3 million page views a month and am on a shared plan with HostGator. Never had a single issue with them and their support is very good. Whenever I call there is no hold at all!

Checkem out Web Hosting, Reseller Hosting, and Dedicated Website Hosting w/ cPanel - HostGator!

Edit: I found a coupon for the first month for hosting @ HostGator Coupons, HostGator Reviews, MyHostGatorCoupons.Com

Try DreamHost. They are pretty good. Excellent tech support too. Can use promo code: 10Clare for a free domain registration and $10 off.

    Best of luck,

You know, it is really hard to suggest you something not knowing your requirements, but if your traffic increases you should definitely buy VPS hosting and for suggestion, have a look at hostcats.com as it seems to offer attractive VPS plans at not very expensive price.

@Iron-man what is the differance between a vps and a dedicated server as i have a normal hosting account but am just about to launch next week a image hosting site that normal hosting wont host so it has to be either a vps or a dedicated i can grasp the latter facilities but i cannot grasp what a vps is ???

VPS hosting is a fixed portion of a dedicated server so you have a guaranteed amount of server resources so you're not sharing resources with other accounts. Here's a list of good value managed vps hosting plans.

I'd like to point out that Godaddy is domain name registrar. If you want to find good web hosting provider, you can compare companies and choose the best one for you and your project. Have a look also at webhostgiant.com offers. They seem to be really cheap ones. Good luck!

I think if your web site consumes much traffic you need a cluster dedicated server. I have seen some nice offers from gazzin.com and hope they will meet your specific demands.

Start with VPS and then as things are going you will decide what to do stay or move to the dedicated server
    Hope that helps

You wouldn't need a Virtual Private Server or any type of Private Server for that matter. Just look into Redundant Servers that will kick in when the traffic loads get heavy. Our ecommerce platform handles all of this and even your marketing Haiku | Overview
