Buying or leasing a good forum.. which is probably vbulletin.org (this board is hosted on it.)

Either buy a theme, or have one custom built =]

Yes vBulletin is the best Forum Software to use if you are looking for extreme complexity or just a simple discussion board.

Online Web Site Builders like Soholaunch can offer you a website and a forum in 1 place and you try out the Web Site builder for free for 15 days, and if you like you can get the forum Addon to add to your Self Built site.

And there is alway phpbb, but I don't recommend that software.

Starting a forum needs a lot of tender loving care! I tried in the past, but had challenges keeping the forum active. Make sure you have time to devote to it.

phpBB is a good free one, if you don't have the budget for vBulletin

Actually I have a forum that I began developing a while ago, but the client never paid for it. If you would like to take a look at it here is the link dclimo.dyndns.org:8069/board1 . If interested let me know. I can also modify it for you. Thank you,

If you are computer savvy you may want to check out phpbb as well. That is what I used to set it up. Right now it is on my test server but I can move it to wherever you want.

What don't you like about phpbb? Just wondering as I have been using it for a while and like it a lot. If there are some serious flaws with it I definitely would wonder what they were so I can check into that and move to a diff platform if I need to

the best way to do it is to sign up with a web host like JustHost or BlueHost. They have a backend feature called "Fantastico" that will allow you to easily create a bulletin board.

Just make sure that you are willing to devote a good amount of time to your the forum that you start. Getting a forum off the ground is not easy as it requires people to come back, interact, and post.

If you were able to get a core of passionate people about your niche to be active, then you will definitely have an easier time building a successful forum community.
