Looking for the right SEO for my website

I recently started a new forum about cars and was wondering how to go about marketing it correctly. I would like to get it ranked high on Google and Yahoo, but am unsure how to go about it...there are so many different SEO companies offering the same product, so for that reason can anyone recommend a credible one?

Key words that I would like to rank high on are: Car Forums, Car Forum, Car Discussion, Car Chat, etc, etc

I think I have an appropriate website address, but I'm made to believe that this doesn't assist your ranking at all...is that correct?

Any help that you can offer would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you.

Let me ask you this... If you knew how to properly promote your site, would you have time to do it? Because I've been watching this video corse by paul counts, 24 hour traffic system. It's excelent, and best of all it's free! I would post the link in here, but being how I'm new, I can't do it yet. So just PM me if you want, and I'll give you the link.

Seo

Hello Car Forums Online,
I know I could help you rank higher with your forum. As far as being number one or on the first page of Google that would be hard. Here's how many result's came back on Google for each keyword you mentioned.
Car Forum 127 million results
Car Forums 135 million
Car discussion 113 million
Car Chat 47.8 million
Those keywords are too broad and you would have a better chance picking a narrow targeted niche of cars.
Like "Ford Car Forum" results drop to 19.3 million
"Ford Mustang Forum" results drop to 1.37 million

You could rank first page for several other keywords and long tail keywords like this.

If any SEO company says they can guarantee to get you on the first page I would be cautious.

Amen.

Paying someone else to do your SEO can cost an exorbitant amount of money. Will you have revenues to justify that kind of expense? If not, you may look into doing everything you can for your site's SEO by yourself. There are several sites that can help. I am in the process of creating a website/forum/blog about my experience through college with entrepreneurship and SEO, and will list several helpful tools. Until then, however, do a google search for "beginner's guide to SEO" or "SEO for forum" and so on. Good luck!

I think goldnote is right, you can make the "ford car forum","ford mustang forum" have a good position on google at first.

Agreed, I wouldn't recommend that you hire someone right now to help you SEO this site because the cost is probably outside your budget (if want to hire somebody that knows what they're doing). Concentrate on the "long-tail" keywords you find on Google's External Keyword Tool (free). Read this free report: "SEO Fast Start 2009" and follow the step-by-step instructions. Just Google it for a link as I can't posts any links yet.

SEO is easy. You outsource it because as a business owner, you are not making great use of your time by finding backlinks and optimizing your site or working "IN" your business at all. There is a lot confusion out there about SEO because there is money to be made by people who want to charge you for it. The more confused you are, the more likely you want to just hand it over to an "expert". Granted SEO is time consuming, tedious, and just plain not fun for a lot of folks, so that is why they outsource it.

Well, a good domain name is important, but it's definitely not enough.

Here are a few tips on how to improve your rankings yourself:
- friendly URLs: I see you are using vBulletin but you don't have friendly URLs. There are several vBulletin plugins that do this, use one of them.
- create content: you have many empty forums. Start creating posts (using the desired ketwords if possible) and ask your friends to help you, an empty forum is neither appealing to new users, nor to search engines.
- get backlinks to your site.

Good luck,
Eugenia
