I understand that google ranks pages based on how many websites have links pointing to your site, but when something like dnscoop (which utilizes alexiarank) says number of pages that contain link to : (some website) does this number represent the website as a whole, or just a page of the website.

for exmaple if I advertised my site, Clays Ferry Cycles - Home Page on an atv forum link ATV Connection Magazine Home Page would I get counted more in alexarank if I put my banner in my signature and posted 1,000 posts of discussion in the forums?

I have a problems here also,i check my Page Ranking,it stated yahoo links are about 3000,but google is 0,what a big differ?Any one can advise.

That number represents the entire site.

are you positive? I believe I viewed someone's backlinks and it displayed a bunch of forums with different posts, but it was all in one forum, he had like 50 links from this one forums site, but posted in different topics...

So, you're saying he had a lot of links from one site?

yea pretty much. Are you saying that google would only count the many links from one site, even though its from different pages, as one backlink? I just really do not know, that is why I ask.

No, I'm not saying that at all. I must have either misinterpreted your question or you misinterpreted my answer. Anyway, I will clear up both.

What I originally said was that the number of backlinks that is provided by DNScoop is the number for your whole entire site (example: the number of links for whatever.com/index, plus the number of links for whatever.com/aboutus, so on and so forth) and not just the number of links to your homepage.

I guess your actual question was would google, dnscoop, etc. count all of the links from the same site as one. The answer to this, I believe is that they will count each link separately even if they are on the same site. For instance, you were to submit your site to a directory and you submitted to one section that is classified by topic and another section that is classified by location, those two links would count separately.
