Hi Jingwen, submit your site to directory is effective provided that if the directory that you submit is with dofollow and high PR. If could be a waste of time if you submit to those directory which is not even indexed by the search engine or having low PR which is not getting attention from the SE.

A website without traffic is nothing. Yes, you got to submit your site to the search engines, link exchange and more so it can be visible. Some companies offer to submit your site for a lot of money, But remember, google is your friend and your teacher too.

No sir it is not a waste of time, you got to be at least in the 20 place in google so you can be visible. I didn't knew nothing about it and I paid $50.00 to doit, and they stole my money. After that I learned how to doit by myself.

When I started, I didn't knew anything about SEO, traffic, page rank, but everything that I learn, I learned googleing, I put my site Best For Less in third place just in 1 week with the keyword "bestforless" it is easy, you don't have to pay nothing for it, it is free and you can doit.

Keys words for googleing are, traffic, page rank, google robot, msn robot, keywords, google webmaster tools

It is not just submit your site, you got to fix your site RIGHT so google and another search engines can crawl your pages.

The reason to submit in directories are not for human eye, its for Search Engines. I submit my sites on free directories. yes it is effective dont buy links from any one you can get free links from many ways. blog commenting, articles, directories so on...

D M O Z.org is the most effective directory to get your site into. Google has an exact copy on their site. However, if it is not a high quality site that abides by their standards, you will not get in.

I think submit to online directories is a good way to promote business, I usually narrowed down a list of the best free ones to submit to, based primarily on their usefulness for SEO.

i really dont think submitting to directory is really needed, if you are doing free submissions, i would say it will never give you any good results
