Question Blog - Best ways to send lots of new traffic to it

hey, james here... i've been running a small blog now for a little over a year, and just recently after reading alot on some of these different forums ive started trying to monetize my blog with adsense and am looking to find different easy ways to send lots of new traffic. So far since i started ive just been dropping alot of links in comments i post on others blogs.. and doing social bookmarking which is where most of my traffic comes from using the automated software from bmdemon.pcti-system. com .. which im sure most of you are probably using also. But I was jus curious, as im still fairly new to this, what are some other easy effective ways i could drive alot of new traffic to my blog? And furthermore, for those other methods for traffic are you aware of any effective software like bm demon that will automate those methods for me that isnt going to cost me much?? As I work 40 hours a week and often find myself with very limited time to work on this project... Any advice / comments / suggestions would be very appreciated!! thanks

Hey what's up James? This is a tough one because if you ask a true blogger, they're going to give you and answer that I think you don't want to hear. I have been blogging off and on for a few years now and I just started taking it seriously about a month ago. I've tried all kinds of things to get my blogs up and going successfully. I've done everything from automatic content to the things you are using now. All of it failed me.

I've recently learned that it's all about the content. Sure, that's not going to drive heavy amounts of traffic to your site... but is that really your goal? As a blogger, you have to decide if you want quick traffic or if you want readers.... loyal readers.

The lovely thing about a blog is that not only will people follow you (so much better than following on twitter), but they'll trust you. So... with that being said...

Do you have time to dedicate to your posts?

You can get all of this traffic but people will leave yourself within seconds if there is nothing to offer. Adsense isn't attractive and eye catching. It's actually ignored initially. You have to hold them there some other way. My blog is just starting to pick up because I did hours and hours of research on ProBlogger.net to understand blogging better. Once I realized it was all about the content... I got to writing.

Next, after about 30 posts under my belt, I started to branch out. I posted in comments on other blogs WITHOUT putting in a link... which is so spammy it's not even funny. I tweeted naturally... no automated stuff. I read an eBook from one of the best bloggers on the freakin' planet and implemented what I read. As a matter of fact, joining a forum with like-minded individuals brings lots of traffic (I wonder how I got on YoungEntrepreneurs.com).

You'll see a few resources on my blog linked in my sig. I know that my answer is kind of off subject from what you were looking for. I just seriously think that traffic means nothing if you aren't building readership and a following.

I just looked at your other post on this site and it was from about a month ago with the same question. Wayne was one of the first to respond. His answer is the same as mine.

Since you did not post a link to your blog, I can't comment on whether your blog is ready to receive traffic. Content is King and there's no point driving traffic to your blog if there is no quality content for the site visitors or there's no content that they are looking for.

Instead of focusing your time on submitting blatantly to directories or social bookmarking sites yourself, why not spend some time on writing good content and then marketing the content organically through search engine optimization, social media marketing (not spamming), email marketing, video marketing or article marketing which will drive targeted traffic to your site?
Jason replied to what Wayne said with the following.

I've been problogging for a long time and this is absolutely true. Without great content, no amount of promotion in the world is going to get you strong, residual traffic.

* Check out copyblogger.com for great writing techniques.

* Keep a pen and paper with you at all time.

* And do research about your niche and expand on the conversation.
People are going to come in here and tell you otherwise. I PROMISE you... you need to go this route.

PPC is the only way to generate more traffic immediately, but it will cost you more. You have to do keyword analysis and carefully plan your campaign.
But if you have patience and ready to look for longterm gains, then do seo and concentrate on providing valuable and informative contents on a regular basis. Onpage and offpage seo can be done by yourself. It will help you in the long run.

content, content and more content. If its good content, people will share it and comment on it.

Getting lots and lots of back links helps generate traffic. In order to do that, participate on the techniques like article and directory submissions, social bookmarking, link exchange, forum posting, blog commenting, online groups, classified ads and press release.

You can participate in different blogging networks like mybloglog or blogcatalog and share your stuffs with other related members on the site. Through this, you can drive referral traffics and that will lead them to redirect them to your site.

sdavis is correct in saying that quality content is the most important thing to gain subscribers. Building a personal following takes time. If you are really keen on monitising your blog then quality content should still be your primary aim because in the long term; better content = more subscribers = more advertising revenue. You can always use microblogging platforms like Twitter to help promote your content to like minded people that may be interested it what you have to say. Soon your blog could be on laptops and pcs everywhere.

In response to mando12, take a look at wordpress and blogger. There are lots of guides on how to setup a free blog such as Problogger which provides great advice on how to get started.

Content is king. Also remember post regularly, ideally 2-3 posts per week, don't make a mistake posting 3 posts on one day and then none the next week. It's a commitment.
