That would be the xrumer. This traffic doesn't stay that high for long. It will get you a good bit of links though.

Wow thanks! And I also noticed that the days afterward had 0 views. is that normal or was that just because those days were in the future? And also, are there any negatives to using xrumer(bad google page ranking, etc.) that I should worry about?

The second day with 1700 wasn't finished at the time of screen shot. And yes the days after with zero were in the future.
I have never heard of anyone getting penalized by Google in the SERP's using xrumer. Doesn't mean it couldn't happen.
To be honest I would only use it if you were selling a product or service.

Another great way, if your potential customers/audience is local is to post flyers around town (universities and public boards) or to post classified ads in local papers.
