Every search engine reads the keywords, so don't buy into "meta keywords are dead." It is a lie. There is just no other way to state that. Keywords should be used in the url (whenever possible), page title, meta keywords, meta description, image file names, image file alt text (whenever possible), file names, directory names and page text content. There are more but that is just off the top of my head.
Meta keywords and key phrases are not exactly the same thing but are used in the same area of your code. When stating a key phrase, you should follow it with each
individual word in the phrase that is a major keyword for that particular page.
Saying that keywords is dead is just plain silly. I hate that so many "so called" experts keep espousing this theory. Keywords are read - it is how the particular search engine uses them that has changed. THOSE are the changes to keep abreat of. Pretty simple, eh?
Plus, google is not the only search engine out there. Yahoo is a very, very close second and AOL and MSN have a large share. Their algorithms give much more credence to meta keywords than google so don't cut meta keywords from your
code. It does not hurt to have them there and is a great big plus to many other search engines which number in the tens of thousands worldwide.
AOL uses the google engine, yes. But AOL also adds its own algorithms to form a unique engine. Even though many search engines use google they also (mostly) tweak the code with their own mathmatical equations. So, just because a search engine says they use google does not mean you should overlook submitting to that particular SE. If you submit at all.
You don't have to submit to the main search engines and in fact don't have to submit to any search engines. It is the nature of the beast (se's in general) to search for new web content so your web site will be crawled and indexed. Just give it a bit of time. One day to one month is normal. Look carefully at your stats - have the se's pick it up? If so and you do not see your web site on the first few pages of a search using your keywords, you have a lot of SEO work to do. Give it a month or so for your site to claw its way to the exact position that google will give it. Then, of course, the next day that position might change.....
