How do you tie these together? Do they stand alone or do you need one strategy for them both? When you do PPC do you use the same search terms as you do for SEO?

Same beast, different strategies. Like SEO, you need to target keywords and phrases that aren't overused by competitors, but could still draw large amounts of traffic. This is done by looking at searches by keywords using Google/Yahoo/MSN tools and then evaluating what it costs for those clicks.
However, PPC is much more complex because you need to know the conversion rate and acquisition cost of a click and compare that with your expense paying for that click. You also should monitor statistics from different search engines and different terms you are paying for by looking at the time people are spending on you site, the number of pages they are viewing and the number of bounces coming from the various sites and phrases. This will help you determine which are the best performers and which should be more heavily invested in. Add to all of this that the specific text ad you are using also has an effect, so you need to work on what adds work best and with what keywords and with what landing pages. Finally, with PPC now you can do "placement" on content sites with Google, target by gender, age, income, and geography, show ads only at certain times, etc...
Geez, I've been running PPC campaigns for probably over 6 or 7 years now. Just keeps getting more complex. There are just so many variables involved.

PPC also has different rules, depending where you're running the ads. On a site like Facebook, they will literally slap your ad down for a misplaced comma!
PPC is great at driving traffic short term, if you're in need of it quickly, or running a limited offer.
SEO is really a long term project.

i am not sure if you follow the 'uber affiliate' (Confessions Of A Super Duper Affiliate) but he launched a great course this week for affiliates beginner-intermediate under Learn Affiliate Marketing at UberCamp it doesn't require a registration or anything. While it doesn't specifically address your question he provides some insight and such on ppc and the different terminology for running ad campaigns on google, yahoo, msn etc.
Thanks for the link.. I'd never heard of that site before

Here is the bottom line.. I need a professional third party to manage this for me. I'd like to do a 90 test run (Oct, Nov & Dec) and I'm willing to spend $80,000 on this. Anyone know a company they would like to recommend?
