    rising fuel costs

so i'm setting up a survey that targets the rising fuel costs for consumers

what kind of vehicle do you drive?
how much does a full tank of fuel cost for your vehicle?
how much do you personally spend a week on fuel?
do you plan to upgrade to a 'hybrid' vehicle in the future?
would you subscribe and refer friends to a service giving away a fuel voucher a day valued between and including $25 and $100?

do you think these 5 questions are sufficient or would you add more or change the current ones...

change the last question to... would you subscribe to and use a service where petrol (gas) stations in your area offered exclusive savings for members?

and add a 6th question... would a daily chance to win free fuel make you more inclined to login and actively seek out the best deal in your area?

and a 7th... what other features, apart from competitions, would appeal and entice you to login and participate as an active member? eg: send sms to friends about a time sensitive fuel discount; receive other targeted discounts from retailers in your area; etc...

Hey mate, what happened to the energy drinks?

Seriously though, what's the point of the site for you?
Are you harvesting info for email-submits or something? It's easier to figure out specific info if you're clearer on what you're trying to do with it.

Looks pretty good except for this question. I'd bet most people don't fill their tanks, especially nowadays with the high gas costs. Most of my college friends talk about avoiding the gas station and pumping a gallon here a gallon there sort of thing.

i'm working on something as i tested it on facebook and got a great response... so for a bit of a laugh i'm going to test something by launching a really simple website and having some fun with it... i've refined it so it's not a survey harvesting emails and is a poll on the side of the website so i have a better understanding of the people participating... among other things

yeah energy drinks are still rockin... we've got around 50 people in the team now... i didn't recruit all of them but we get paid on volume so cheering about that... i've got my verve prophets blog starting to get indexed and it's bringing people in... i'm just doing it online submitting articles and stuff

Fuelwatch is coming in soon... (Australia)

Will be tough to compete with that govt initiative.

Although there definitely are lots of opportunities to be had with rising fuel problem...

hey crackah... don't tell me your bitchin about something again... you really never have anything constructive to say do you... lol good one mate... while being a nuisance why not do something constructive and point me to one of those schemes your talking about as i haven't seen any and am interested

hey rossco1... yeah WA has their fuelwatch and now rudd the dropkick is introducing it to the whole of australia... it is predicted that it will actually drive petrol prices up which is a shame as prices are ridiculous... being in qld you get it a bit cheaper than your NSW neighbours

what kind of vehicle do you drive? Volvo S40

how much does a full tank of fuel cost for your vehicle? $55-$60

how much do you personally spend a week on fuel? $80-$200 (I drive a lot for work)

do you plan to upgrade to a 'hybrid' vehicle in the future? I just got rid of my Ford Explorer and bought the Volvo

would you subscribe and refer friends to a service giving away a fuel voucher a day valued between and including $25 and $100? Nope... not into that kind of stuff.. my friends have a hard enough time putting up with me without having to be annoyed by ridiculous referral programs.

change the last question to... would you subscribe to and use a service where petrol (gas) stations in your area offered exclusive savings for members? Nope... to many different gas stations.. to many different prices...

and add a 6th question... would a daily chance to win free fuel make you more inclined to login and actively seek out the best deal in your area? Nope.. to busy

and a 7th... what other features, apart from competitions, would appeal and entice you to login and participate as an active member? eg: send sms to friends about a time sensitive fuel discount; receive other targeted discounts from retailers in your area; etc... None.. the only thing I would use would be to prepay for gas... say buy 100 gallons at $4.00 today that I can use anytime over the next year. I know they tried that before and it blew up in their face... Other then that... I'm to busy to keep up with logging in on line to try and save 2% on my gas costs.

I figured someone should at least take the time to answer your questions...

its amazing how many people are bashing this thread, why don't you guys go to the spam threads and have a field day, Gasoline is a hot topic, this thread has potential to start some interesting conversation, but instead its become a war on "why is knowledge about others spending habits when gas is only $4 a gallon important?

But to answer the question in short,

I have a MB C230, i get 30mpg, i drive very rarely, take the bus to school so my gas expense is 10-20$ per week. I plan to buy a hybrid, and I have a chase BP card that gives me 5% cash back on all my gas purchases.

thanks pboy... gasoline is a huge topic at the moment and it's only going to heat up... i'm not proposing i can change the way prices are heading or reverse it... but i can have some fun with it and it's interesting to see where trends are heading... the australian government recently invested bucketloads of money into developing and ramping up production of hybrid vehicles in australia... great news i say... are people finally going to consider such options? are they educated on these options? do they understand what it means to their back pocket? or even the environment? are there products out there that do wonders on cutting fuel costs that te general public is not aware of?

rejoice: I dunno about it driving the cost of fuel up... It'll average it out across the week I reckon, without the price spikes and troughs like we get now though... so no more tight arsed tuesday petrol prices.

Have you thought about seeing if you can get a chain onto a pre-paid scheme?
Whereby people pre-buy fuel at a certain price to hoewever many litres.
The company already has their money, so it can't bitch about them getting "free fuel" when the prices go up. Likewise, if they pre-bought the fuel, the customer is "losing" money if they use the card when prices drop below the point they bought it for.
You'd never get Safeway or Coles on it, but BP or United might be interested in the idea.
