Can someone please explain to me this business model? Pay to click (PTC). I don't understand it, although it is seeming intriguing. It is allowable by advertisers?
thanks in advance.

being in online marketing and biz dev for years I also came across this model in my very early stages.
basically you have a member site where the owners get paid by advertisers x amount per viewing, clicking ad or read an email / Incentive traffic.
As a "publisher" (might be the wrong description here) you are asked to either watch a slideshow of websites for x amount of time. let's say 20 seconds. after you viewed the site for 20 seconds you are credited (pennys but mostly "points") and the next site is displayed. Same is with paid to click, you get paid pennys or point to click on a ad and view it for x amount of time.
The reality is the member gets paid very little ,mostly couple cents if even that to view/click a website for x amount of time, something like 20 seconds.
the advertiser pays to have his/her site shown.
My experience as advertiser has been 0% roi. quality is pretty bad for advertiser. And to get paid I never could afford to pay my mortgage in California with it.
nevertheless it does work for some people as advertisers for specific industries and it might be worth for some "publishers" in third word country to be paid.
but again this is just my experience and I am sure there are others who had good experience with it.
hope this helps a bit

Thanks LCS...
Could we place yahoo ads, or adsense on a site with this business model? Click bank? I'm not sure what the ad providers would permit.
PPC is a very effective way to advertise but can become pricey. If you have a good keyword research tool you should look for all the misspellings with a lot of searches. They can be goldmines sometimes
