    Online marketing for local businesses?

Is there a point for local businesses to market online? I know that online marketing is what a lot of people are doing nowadays, but I'm not sure how targeting people all over the internet would benefit a small local business. Reading this board makes me feel like I need to get my name totally out there on the web. All the free advertising is extremely appealing as well.

You could always create a web page on your site that exclusively focuses on one area - especially if you provide a service. Hypothetically, let's say you're a Realtor in Los Angeles. On your site, you could have a specific page - aside from your about or home page - that talks about providing your services to that area.

online marketing for small/local businesses is very essential, although there are many people doing online marketing but there is some potential in marketing of local businesses, as jasdavid said you should have a specific page on your site which describe your services that exclusively focuses on your niche, targeting your niche is the on of the best way towards success.

Facebook marketing allows you to market to a certain geographic region. Google adsense might also, but not sure.

It all depends on the business. But if you can get them to rank on the first page of google for "dentists in xxx", you can charge them a lot for the webpage or adspace. That's what I do and do quite well.
