    'nofollow' VS. 'external nofollow'

    What is the differnce between rel="nofollow" and rel='external nofollow', if any? I noticed that the no follow links that are pointing to my site are a mix of both of these versions.

    rel="nofollow' should prevent search engines from following it, therefore you get no PR fro those links.

    rel="external" tells the browser that the link goes offset, and it will open the page in a new window based on its settings. Its the valid xhtml way to do target="_blank"

    rel="external nofollow" should do both.
