Post quality content and links to sites, gain followers, etc. Mix in your own marketing message. Don't go overboard on any one part of it. Most of all, don't waste your entire day on Twitter, there's better ways to market than focusing on one.

The best way i have found to make twitter work for your online business is to setup a wordpress blog and install the twitter plugin. Everytime you write a new post that article automatically gets posted onto your twitter account. If you have alot of traffic and readers coming onto your blog you can put a link to your twitter account to allow your readers to follow you on twitter aswell

To take it another step you can link in your facebook account to your twitter account that feeds off your blog. So when you write a new entry in your blog it gets posted onto Twitter and then twitter posts it on your facebook status

1. People get tired of being constantly targeted by Marketers and Sales people that try to sell them stuff they never were and never will be interested. While you can create a more targeted follower group on Twitter more easily, you still don't want to oversell your great product and get the reputation of a Twitter Spammer.

2. Stop automating Twitter
Do not send Auto-DMs to thank somebody that they followed you! They ARE annoying!!! Don't use other automation services, as from my experience, you will attract "Spammers" and your click-through rate will drop!

3. Establish a personalized profile, but stay professional
While I think it is important to give your Twitter Profile a personal touch and let them know, that there is a real person writing these Tweets with a real opinion, stay away from the "hot" topics, like politics, religion, sex and more...

I've found twitter traffic do not convert well so with that in mind, make sure w/e you do, make sure you are getting the right followers.
