    Marketing idea

This is an idea I got from the article I posted in another forum. It mentioned a great way to advertise using cell phones.

The idea to transform cellphones into a hot new advertising medium using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technology.

In fact, it is in Egypt where the market has emerged. The Middle East presents a huge market, based on their strong cell phone use foundation. The creation of networks that can both access and be accessed on a permission basis by cellphones.

It can be used for location-based advertising, so when you enter a mall, you can receive coupons for stores in that mall, for example. Different layers can eventually evolve from this, which can allow various services such as file sharing, or network gaming over the cell phone, or breaking news, without the use of the mobile network.

Which other forum, if you don't mind me asking?

Because I posted explicit instructions on how to do this on the cheap (if you've got a bit of wits about you )in another particular forum.

I've been doing this for ages now to promote stuff at nightclubs, and at shopping malls.
I do it from a portable setup using my UMPC and sometimes my PDA if I'm going to be in an area that doesn't really allow for a computer to be pulled out (like it's a really busy night at the club).

Oh, I posted the article in "General Business" called "Great Entrepreneurial business program" in the article it talks about a business program for entrepreneurs and talks about the marketing idea listed in this thread.

So just in case people didn't bother reading the whole this, I decided to pull a piece of the article and post it here since it relates to marketing,

So, Harvey J, its good that you have implemented this procedure. And it looks like it is working for you. Thanks for your feedback

Seems like it could work, but the risk of it being hated it huge. If I was bombarded with spam every time I walked into a store I think I might lose my mind.

My cellphone is already getting annoying. I am getting lots of scam calls and lots of cold calling going on, this is same as cold calling. Infact, much more worse as it will annoy you with lots of spamming.

This is the time when advertisers have to think of new ways of marketing. My favorite has always been guerilla marketing.

    Anyone know whats that?

Going out and doing unusual stuff on the cheap that gets a lot of attention and only really requires the energy and elbow grease of those that are performing it, such as paste ups, or even street theater?

Anyway, if it's so annoying, then turn your bluetooth to invisible, or off entirely. It's TOTALLY unlike spam, because spam doesn't have the option to actively reject the message (all bluetooth transfers must be accepted or denied) and you can't actually turn your email box off. Bluetooth can very definitely be switched off without hampering the device in any other way.

If people are that annoyed by it they'll switch it off.
If they're too ignorant to be able to figure out how to do that (and it's really simple... and there are instructions online... and the phone comes with a freakin user manual!) then they kind of deserve it, IMO.

Sorta... you REALLY have to think outside the box with this one. It doesn't work like PPC does.
Due to the nature of it, you're going to find that you have to be in the right place at the right time and with the right message, or it's next to useless.
i.e. People at a nightclub aren't interested in payday loan offers. Teenagers in a mall don't care for anything you can get out of Clickbank.
As most people want to be able to get instant gratification out of something, it's best to either send them to a site that's been optimized for mobile use, and is easy enough to use. Info submits work best for this. Alternatively, run a script that will email them details for a fully featured site later.

For instance, I've promoted Affiliation Cash's private P2P nets, using a custom landing page that promotes mobile phone content (ring tones, java programs, etc). If end users went to the site, they saw all the info, and there was the payment gateway. They could sign up from their phones, but then needed to use their actual computers to access the content fully.
I promoted at shopping malls during school holidays (a lot of kids in Australia have debit cards nowadays) and between 2-5pm, after school.
This did amazingly well for me, as I'd basically knocked the site design off the ad in the back of a teen magazine.

I also promoted LandOverBaptist and Tshirthell shirts during the week of World Youth Day, around Sydney's CBD area...
I did fairly well out of that too thanks to the anti-catholic sentiment in Sydney at the time.

If anyone's interested in the Affiliation Cash stuff, I'm an AM there as well nowadays, so you're welcome to PM me for info on it.
