Let The SEO Begin.
Calling all SEO Experts.

So I make websites, and logos for people right. But I am not at all familiar with seo. I haven't ever taken the time to optimize a site or read a book on optimization.

What you probably don't know about me is that making websites is a part time gig that I do on the side to make a little extra cash. My "real" job is working for a medical billing company that my father owns.

This is going to be my company some day and since I will be in charge I would like to do what I can now to start making the company more profitable for me in the future. That is why I need the seo experts.

Our site is Custom Data Services, Inc.. It has been up for about 3 years, and this is the second version of the site that I have made. This one is much better than the first because it allows us to give our clients access to some of their data via a secure login. My goal now is to make it search engine friendly.

The company is over 30 years old and we don't do any advertising. We simply use word of mouth to generate new business, and I think it is time that we changed that. Since I of course am not in charge of it all yet I don't have the means to spend money advertising the site.

I ask you now please help me make this site search engine friendly. I would like to take it a little at a time and build it right. If anyone is willing to work through this with me, I may be interested in offering my services to you for the work.

My one request is be specific, please don't give me a list of crap that says:
1. link swap
2. write articles
3. blah blah blah

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

I'm also looking into learning about Search Engine Optimization so i can implement it into my site. I've learnt bits and pieces on the net but there is just so much you could never read it all.

My dad has a big site for his telecoms business and they spend around £100 000 (200 000$) on advertising every month. But as far as his SEO is concerned he pays somebody to do it for him. I'm trying that route but it is quite expensive, especially for a start up like mine.

Hope you do well with this. If there's anything i find that i think might help i'll let you know.

Wow, No offence but that needs some attention!
PM me what you want to be top of the search engines for (which term/s) and I'll see what I can come up with for you.
Ready to rebuild the whole site piece by piece?

regards
James.

Thanks for the responses. I'll send you a pm in a bit Nick.

Justone as for a complete rebuild I would rather not, but if it is what needs to be done, then I will be up for it.

I dont think you need to rebuild but on page SEO is essential. Why not also capture email addresses of your visitors by offering them a free gift?

Richkid,

Thanks for the response. But we are more of an old fashioned straight forward company. We would rather not start offering people stuff just to get their information. We are not looking for to gather a bunch of info on just anybody. We are looking to get our services to the the people who are interested in them. Free gifts just seem gimmicky.

well instead of a free gift why not a monthly newsletter? then anyone who is even partly interested will hear from you every month so when they are ready to get a website designed you will be on their mind.

Richkid,

Now that is an idea that I like. I could probably get my supervisors to create some inetersting content. Thanks.

no problem I work in a real estate agency and we are always getting drummed into us the power of a database of potential clients.

I know you don't want to hear about original content, but truly, it is the key. Moreover once you have original content then you can add buttons for people to submit this content to sites like Digg.com to drive traffic to your site.

@ Creadiv - The first thing I would do on your site is optimize the title element. The title element is arguably the single-most important factor in terms of on-page SEO. Currently, all of your titles are the same (Custom Data Services, Inc.). It is important to develop unique titles that include your keywords. Therefore, if you haven't done it yet, keyword research is an absolute necessity. Keep in mind, however, that your title shouldn't be stuffed with all of your keywords. It should be an optimal mix of keyword optimization and targeting, as well as compelling copy that will entice your potential visitors.

Hey Adam,

Just had a quick look... You definitely need a good title tag! And you have no description tag... there are many more tags, but those are the 2 most important one's.

I agree with the other's - capturing visitor data and building your database is very important. You dont have to try and sell to them all the time, but communication (via a newsletter etc) builds relationships and will result in loyal customers.

Have a quick read through the SEO article in my Sig - It'll give you a quick overview of the basics of SEO. Feel free to chat on MSN if you need to know more.

I also might need some logo work done for a new site i'm busy with, so maybe we can organize something.

Dylan,

Sounds good. I will read that article asap and will get ahold of you later on msn. I picked up a book on Search Engine Marketing and am learning alot. I hope that in a couple of months I will be moderately literate in seo and will be able to boost the site up to the top.
