Legitimate email being identified as spam/junk mail

    Hey all.

I recently bought some e-mail marketing, or follow-up marketing software... anyway, it's a great tool, but today i added an image to an outgoing follow up email. I tested it and it was sent to junk mail (using outlook).

Have any of you had a similar problem when adding images to your emails???

    Any fixes?

    Later,
    Dylan

Is it text or HTML? Do you have an SPF Record set up? Did you also check DNS Stuff to make sure that your IP addresses are not on any blacklists?

    Hey Corey,

    It's HTML

No. I haven't got either SPF set up, or checked DNS. I've just started with serious email marketing, so am quite new to it, but am sure i wouldnt appear on any kind of blacklist.

The problem is only when i add an image to the outgoing mail - otherwise it's fine.

Keep in mind that each individual has his / her own settings in Outlook. If an image is not showing up, what (other) settings do you have for Outlook in regards to HTML?

And if you are hosting with a company, chances are hundreds of other companies are using the same email server. So if one company does something bad and they are reported, you go down the drain.

Godaddy is one provider that might blacklist an entire Class C. This is even worse that sharing an email server. One blacklist provider that will also block an entire Class C is 510. Sometimes it is pretty easy to get off a list but some lists actually "fine" you as well.

    hey

About setting in Outlook. I haven't changed mine, so i think it should be on the default settings. The thing is that i receive emails from other companies that contain images, and they dont get sent to junk mail.

I see what you're saying about companies using the same email server.... I host with a really great, reputable company. So i would be surprised if that's the problem.

I think i'll try and send the same email via Outlook, instead of through the email marketing software and see what happens.

    Hey Corey,

I've sorted it out by uploading the images to my server and inserting them with the URL...
    They're going through now.

I think it's a bad idea to send ads messages with image(s) attached... Modern anti-spam software set up at mail servers is smart enough to recognize this... I have some experience in sending spam messages, but attaching images never worked for me well.

Hey Yuppie.. I'm not sending spam messages. The emails are informative follow up messages for which the receiver has clearly opted-in.

Also, I haven't been attaching the images; i have been including them in the body of the emails being sent.

I have contacted the software house about the problem and they say they are releasing a new version shortly which should rectify the problem.
