how important is to have the right target group before marketing

Hi, I put this thread because I consider that it can be relevant thinking a little bit about this before start a marketing campaign. It doesn't matter what about your business exactly is, but you always have to think first about the target group you desire having. Why? well, because sometimes we lose time by sending e-mails, designing sites, etc, etc,. for the wrong group of people. That means, people that wont be your customers, although your marketing and services are good.

Someone has more information about this? Agree, disagree?

yes, for example, I have some relatives who spent lots of money trying to get more clientele , but they did it in the wrong way! they didn't think about what kind of people they wanted to have as customers, ... and the result? their business died.

You need to make sure the you know who you are marketing to before you begin your marketing campaigns. Research, research, and more research needs to be done to ensure that your marketing dollars are bringing back the highest ROI possible. Wastefully spending advertising dollars is no good for the business. Learn about your target audience and then approach marketing ideas that suit your audiences needs.

Research your target market thoroughly as possible to know what makes them tick, else you might just as well be placing a billboard in the desert!

Agree - you should not target all demographics because not everyone wants or needs your product or service. You should be targeting a select group of people. Even if your product appeals to a large demographic, you should figure out who your ideal consumer is to increase targeted web site traffic.
