Who built this site for you? Was it a web design company or a free lancer? Is the site template based or was it built from scratch? You need to have meta tags in order to found by search engines, the search engines read these tags in order to know what your site is about. This is basic SEO, before you start advertising you need to do some basic SEO on your site so that your efforts are not a waste.

You also want to think about your target audience here, who is your target audience? What is your objective for the site? How are you monetizing the site?

PM if you have specific questions or post here.

    Seo

Kim is correct your site needs some optimization. Things like the title of the page, words that are in bold, h1 h2 tags, meta tags; are all important in getting listed in search engines. The use of these tags enable search engines to figure out exactly what are the important parts of your site and what your site is about. Article submission is a good way to get your name out there. Using ad campaigns like google adwords is good for getting a site going but doesn't really work for an adsense supported site. For example, someone clicks and is taken to your site but doesn't click anything and leaves. They might sign up and start using your site and click later, but the immediate results are hard to see. Basically what I am trying to say is almost everyone you drive to the site with an ad campaign needs to click an ad to to pay for the campaign. Anyways I am rambling on, the saying does hold true that if you build it, they will come. Good content = users coming and using your site = clicks.

    Here's the scenario right now.

I feel like I'm advertising and getting members very passively, only throwing a few dollars a day at facebook ads, and youtube videos, etc and I'm not getting good members. I'm getting sign ups, but they rarely do anything with it. I really want to actively get members and advertise. I have a few hundred dollars that I'm willing to throw out there right now, and I need to do it in a big splash and get instant good activity. What should I do? The site is based around the videos, but what will keep it active is the forums, how do I get people?

You should probably try some SEO first too. You can view Google's guide here: Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide

As far as craigslist you can you post relevant ads on there site as well as other free classified ad sites in order to get traffic to your site. You should not spam the site but make valuable posts instead. Setting up an ad on Craigslist is free and can be accomplished in only a few minutes.

You can use CL's to offer your products or services to
others in the same way that a small business
    owner would.

Because Craigslist is now receiving around 10
million visitors to it each month, and these are
then generating around about 4 billion page views a
month, you will find that, by placing an
advertisement here, it will help you to reach a
much larger target audience than you would normally
do through other methods of advertising your
    business.

First you are going to want to open an account. Opening an account, it allows you to view
and edit any listings you have posted, as well as
view any of your old postings as well.

Next, you need to go the city where you live. All you need to do is enter in your City name in order to go the
    Craigslist section for that area.

Navigate to the appropriate area to post your ad, for example if you are selling an item you would want to post in the "For Sale" section.

You will want to include an appropriate title, location if necessary and description, don't forget to include your website address.

Then you will be asked to enter an email address.

When possible you want to include pictures. Many people
miss this option, but you will see one when
creating your listing that says “Add/Edit Images”. Choose the file from your computer.

Click Continue, you will have to agree to the terms. You will then be asked to enter a captcha to avoid automated postings to the site. If you have created an account the posting will go live within 15 minutes or so. If you did not create an account you will receive an email with a link that you will need to confirm the listing before the posting will go live.

    Hope this helps,
    Kim

    Thanks a lot,
I'll try this. But it has to be city specific? Should I post it in multiple cities?

I see lots of companies do SEO.... but what do they do for you?

We had a company build the site, so we don't exactly know how to edit it that well... would we give an SEO company access to the site to do it for us? or what?

Craigslist - You can post in multiple cities if you like, just do not post too many a day and do not use the same ad when you post.

You could hire a "SEO" company to do the onsite SEO for you but this is going to be expensive and it is difficult to find a reputable company that is not going to just take your money. Yes, they are going to have to have access to the site and its files in order to modify and create meta tags and such. Was the site built on a platform?

Have you done any keyword research? Do you know how to do keyword research? If you are looking to get quick traffic that is targeted, and have an advertising budget you can set up a PPC campaign. You will want to put a couple of things in place before doing this do so that it is not a wasted effort.

Let me know if I can help.

Why not try writing a press release and submitting them to several PR sites?
