open source CMS Confusion

am wanting to build a certain type of site, and really dont want to get started to find out 100 hours in that I cant do what I really want , so maybe someone can tell me if there is a open source CMS that is right for my project.
I want to build a site basically pairing up people with service providers they need. The service will be paid for online and I will collect a finders fee from a portion of the payment.
I want each service provider to fill out an initial form that will automatically place them in a database than can be searched by certain criteria that they 'check' when filling out the initial information. I would also like for the site to build a page containing the information of the service provider with capabilities of the service provider adding a photo, as well as a short video. I want to approve each page however before the website displays it in the database.

I have seen alot of ecommerce or informational that are done with joomla, drupal, etc, i even am looking at typolight, textpattern and others (there are so many!), but am wondering if i am just asking for it by attempting a website with all these features. While I have some VERY basic understanding of website design, I do not have much coding experience, so does anyone out there think this can be done ???? If so, whats the best CMS for the job?

Hi GlamGirl,

I believe that the site you are planning is possible to be setup with drupal.
However, I'm not an expert on drupal, but I installed the latest version of drupal on my server as a test and it looks good. Futhermore, it would be multilingual, if you like to have this feature.

The administration could be done from anyone without any coding experience. You might find some modules which have the features you need. But I think you will need assistance of a drupal expert, at least at the beginning. Adjusting the webdesign of your site is relatively easy and lots of free templates are available.

Hopefully this helps a bit. I'm sure you will get some more replies on this.

I appreciate the input. There are so many CMS's out there it can be a bit overwhelming knowing which one to start with - I am looking at Typolite right now, but its hard to look past Drupal and Joomla due to their popularity. I have not yet found an easy way to compare them.

Found a great site for CMS comparisons, The CMS Matrix - cmsmatrix.org - The Content Management Comparison Tool, gotta say i think im gonna try DotNetNuke. It seems to be the most versatile.

I want to use DotNetNuke, it is the most versatile CMS - but the installation is turning into a nightmare, the manual says you need ITT knowledge to install, but after that its easy to use .... doesn't make much sense. I tried installing it last night .... server config, using a web platform installer, ugh. I rerally know very little about that type of thing.
Any suggestions?

dont forget ,that if you want real e-commerce (get payments\micropayments with credit cards),you need to be PCI-DSS ready ,so you need a PCI ready CMS

(unless you use paypal ,then you dont need anything)

there is many requirments to complay ,like dedicated server ,SSL ,fw ,and many more
so

check out CRE loaded ,might feet with some customisation

about the technical stuff ,instaling those cms's require some knowledge ,not hard at all actually ,only to creat a database (can be done via web interfaces such as php my admin etc) and push next next next (:::

Settings Page

JobPress is coming with a settings page from where you will be able to edit and customize all theme features. You can set the payment system, customize the success message and mail, set the price and the currency without editing any file!

Payment System

Just past your PayPal email in the settings page, set a price and a currency and you are ready to monetize. JobPress payment system is able to charge credit cards and paypal accounts.

Security

After the payment is done Paypal sends a signal to JobPress, and only if the signal is real the job will be published. Also a verify sign key is generated and stored in your database.

Displaying Jobs

Your users are able to filter your jobs using the "Freelance", "Part Time", "Full Time" tags, using the category and even "Freelance", "Part Time", "Full Time" in categories! You set your categories.

Time Stamp

All Job Classifieds older then 30 days are coming with an advertisment so your users will know if there are any chances or not.

Usability

Submitting Jobs is just easy. At the first step the information is entered, at the second step your users are able to preview their job ad and after the payment a custom success message is displayed and the job is publish automatically.
