Improving my software

Hello, my name is Nathan.
I'm relatively new to this site yet it seems the most appropriate place to seek advice on an idea of mine.

I have some basic programming knowledge which I have finally put to some use.
I've started on a simple application, based on simple code, that does a simple but useful job. There are programmes that are similar but they overcomplicate the task, mine is built for ease of use.

What I'm looking for is someone with more experience in this area which can help improve the software.
Also if I found someone to help, what protection do I have against them stealing my idea/code?

And finally, what is the best way of generating money from the software, free with advertising / charge for the software / other.

If you have someone look at your code and you are truly holding it as intellectual property (IE...would hurt your business if someone would steel it) have them sign a non-disclosure form. This will protect you to a point...ie give you legal grounds to go after a person or company if they break the contract and steel/share your code. However keep in mind that to recover from this even with a ND you will likely need to go to court so the bottom line is never share your code with someone unless you first trust them (truly), have them sign a ND, and always be prepared to sue if necessary.

Now that's the formal answer.....I have shared code with other developer friends and they are cool to protect my work so befriending someone you can trust is the best first step.

Can you get help with your software from a user perspective? In other words you don't share the code but have people demo the code for user feedback?

I developed this software as a basic tool for myself to begin with.
I had a task that required a lot of thinking to complete and had to be done many times over so I looked online for a solution, I found some online sites offering the service for free yet the way in which it was done was incredibly overcomplicated, I just want to type one or two figures in and get a result.

I suspect this would be very useful to a large number of people who are in the same situation as I am. I just need someone who can incorporate the ideas I have into the software for me without me needing to learn even more programming. I thought that the software could be offered for free but contained advertisements yet I'm not sure if this is a viable option.

Ah ok, developed for yourself right now, no problem. My initial answer was a little overboard then.

If you like I would be willing to look at your software as a developer and/or user. If as a developer I can help if software is written in any of these languages: C, C++, PERL, JavaScript, HTML, PHP. I'm most comfortable/fluent in these languages.
