how to transfer info from personal device to internet (and back)

Say I had a handheld device that had a website connected to it's function/purpose. If I wanted to change something displayed on the personal device by changing it on the website, what would I need to transfer information like that straight from the website to device?

Im just either drawing a blank here or I dont know what it's called...thanks guys

I think you need to be a little more specific... what sort of device, and what is it you wanted to change?

it's a wristwatch that displays information. this information is already pre-written out by you on a particular website. this way you can carry this information with you wherever you want to go.

i just want to know how a personal electronic device can "receive" the changes you make from the website? if the only real solution is plugging in a usb cable to transfer the information then so be it..but i'd prefer wireless transfer. possibly bluetooth? im asking if there's any other way.

if no one knows an answer then maybe you can point me in the direction of places that build prototypes of inventions.

If you're wanting this information to come off the net, your device needs to have WiFi or 3G connectivity, connect and download the info.
If you want it wirelessly, you can bluetooth push to it If your device supports file sharing via bluetooth. Not every device with bluetooth actually does. Once your device has been bonded to your computer, you should just be able to drag and drop files to its icon in your bluetooth connections. Software like Blue Soliel makes this pretty easy.

So, I get the feeling you are trying to make something like a wrist watch that displays data from a website, right? Don't be afraid to disclose that, it certainly isn't a new invention. But what I'm getting at is, if this is a device you are designing, no one can answer your question except you. Is the device going to contain any connectivity methods other than through USB? If not, then you are stuck with USB. If it will have bluetooth, wi-fi, or some other wireless capability, then you could use any of those. It all kind of depends on what the specific device is capable of handling.

If, by chance, you are asking about a specific device that is already being manufactured by a company, tell us what it is and maybe we can help you.
